Tops in safe driving Lorne Fell was top contest- ant in the men's division in the Perth County annual Junior Farmer's safe driving road-eo which was held at Mitchell. Lorne received a plaque with his name engraved, a club tro- phy, a silver tray and a case of motor oil. Celebrate anniversary A family dinner was held. re- cently in Staffa Township Hall to honor Mr. and Mrs, Garnet Taylor on their 35th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Taylor is the' former Gertrude McClure of Winthrop. They have a family of four daughters and four sons: Mrs. Floyd (Jean) Armstrong, Zur ieh, Mrs. John (Myrtle) Tay- lor, Brucefield, Mrs. Garnet (Elizabeth) Smith, Egmond-1 villa, and Dorothea, Staffa; 1 Clarence, William, Russell, J Beverley, . all of Staffa. They have 20 grandchildren. Later in the evening rela- tives and friends joined the family in the hall for a social evening of progressive euchre and dancing. The grandchildren presented them with a bouquet ,of yellow mums. A short program was enjoyed follnWed by a parade of the pupils and guests in costume. Winners were: prettiest, Linda and Ann Evans; funniest, El- gin Dearing; best disguise, Randy Moore. Those not in costume had to pay a penalty. A collection for UNICEF was taken and lunch was served, Reception for newlyweds A reception for Mr, and Mrs. Carlyle Meikle (the former Penny Scott) was held in the Staffa Township Hall Friday evening. A good crowd attend- ed, Cordon Colquhoun read the address and Mr. and Mrs. Meikle were presented with a gift of money by George Viv- ian. Harburn's orchestra provided the music for dancing. Mr. and Mrs. Eldrid Mc - Nicol and Mr, George Miller, London, visited on Wednesday with Miss Margaret' and James Miller, Mr, and Mrs. John Miller and Karen spent a few days visiting with friends and rela- tives in Peterborough and Mr. Herman Willard in Colbourne. Mrs. Ernest Templeman is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Wilfrid Annis and family. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Miller and family attended Zion Unit- ed Church anniversary and vis- ited with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Roney and fancily. Mr. Sam Norris fell from a ladder recently while picking apples, injuring his shoulder. Miss Rosanna Worden, Strat- ford, spent the weekend at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bowman visited recently with relatives in .Acton. Mr, and Mrs. Sam Norris and Patti attended Zion an- niversary on Sunday and visit - e', with Mr. and Mrs, Wilfrid Annis and family. With as many visitors as members in attendance, Miss Rachael Young of the:Chil- dren's Md Society in Sarnia gave an interesting talk and all felt more keenly their need of Christmas and Easter do- nations. The group also gleaned a clearer understanding of the work they are called upon to do, and how these problems are always solved with the chil- dren's welfare uppermost.
