Friends, neighbors and rela- tives attended open house at the home of Mr. and. Mrs. Ar- thur Simpson on the ()melon of their 50th or golden anni- versary. Later a family dinner was held, Sautrday evening; at the home of their sen.in-law and daughter, Mr, and Mrs. Andy Thompson. The couple exchanged mar- riage vows at the bride's home, McGillivray Township, August 30, 1011 with the Rev. G. 3. Kerr of the Lucan and Clande- boye churches officiating. At that, time, there were three automobiles in Luean. A Mr. J. McLean, drove the cou- ple for their first ear ride to Lucan to take the 3:40 pan, GTR train for Toronto to at- tend the CNE there. The guests driving with horses and buggies left earlier to be near the Ma- tto but when the horses saw the car chugging along toward them, they became frightened. The car had to be stopped so the folks had lots of fun throw- ing rice at the young couple as the train•was late with so many going to the Toronto Fair. Mrs. Simpson was the for- mer Laura Lee, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Lee, McGillivray township. Her hus- band was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Simpson, Bid- dulph township. The couple received congra- tulatory messages from the Prime Minister, John Diefen. baker, W. H. A. Thomas, MPP of Middlesex West, Premier Les- lie Frost, William Stewart, MPP of Aliddiesex and an em- bossed certificate from the Par- liament Buildings in Toronto. The couple have farmed their entire married life in Biddulph and later in McGillivray town- ship. During the evening, tea was poured by Mrs, Priscilla Mor - gait and Mrs. William Lee, Ail- sa Craig, Mrs, Thomas Lee, Lucan, and Mrs, Harold Cout- sey, RR 1 Lunn. A. granddaughter, H e 1 e n, Simpson, and grandson, Thompson, welcomed the guests with grand daugh 1 er Hazel Simpson, and grandson Sandy Thompson in charge of the guest book, which 125 guests signed. Guests were served by grand. daughters, Miss Joan Simpstm, London, and Mrs. Keith Simp- son, Clandeboye, and Miss Ma- rilyn Eaton and Miss Patricia Carter of London. Others as- sisting were daughters, Mrs. Kermit 'Thompson, Liman, 1111 1 Mrs. Andy Thompson, Mrs. William Simpson, Mrs. George Simpson, Clandeboye and Mrs. Clifford Simpson, London. Mr. and Mrs. Simpson are members of the Clandeboye 'United Church of which Mr. Simpson is an elder. He has also been a member of the Mc- Gillivray School Area Board. for five .years and at present is vice chairman. They were active members of the former Hillcrest Farm Forum. Mrs. Simpson is a life mem- ber of the WMS and past presi- dent of the WAIS and WA also a member of the Clandeboye Womea's Institute, They have three sons and two daughters, Mrs. Kermit (Alice) Thompson, RR 1 Luean William and George of RR 1 Clandeboye; Clifford of London a n d Mrs. Andy (11 ario n) Thompson, RR 1 Clandeboye and 11 grandchildren. Mr, Simpson has one bro- ther, Roy Simpson, San Fran- cisco, California. Mrs, Simp- son has.one brother, William E, Lee, Ailsa Craig; and one age ter, Airs. Jack (Olive) McEwert, RR 1, Clandeboye.
