STEPHEN FIELD MEET CHAMPIONS—These six students were declared champ- ions at the Stephen township, school area field meet at Dashwood Monday. Dashwood students outdist- anced competitors from seven other participating schools by picking up a total of 125 points during the morning competition. Crediton Public School was second with a 92.point total and Sharon Public School came in third with 52 points, The other schools taking part In the field day ad the num- ber of points they• obtained were: Khiva (49), Greenway (38)1, Shipka (34), Blacksmith (23), Centralia (8). Field competitions in. senior, Intermediate and junior divi- sions for both boys eand girls were held in the morning while the afternoon was given over to softball paydowns between the schools, in junior and sen- ior divisions. Individual championships for the athlete obtaining the Most points in each division were an- nounced after all the results were tallied, Richard Denomme, Dash- wood, was the senior boys champion. with a total of 18 points. Bernice. Restemeyer, also of Dashwood, copped the senior girls championship with 16 points. The intermediate boys' cham- pion was Lorne Vincent of Greenway who picked up two firsts for a total of 10 points. Ma Tien e enom e, Klliva, topped the intermediate girls division championship with a 21 -point total, James Hayter of Dashwood garnered the most points in the junior boys section to cop the championship award for that division. Jim picked up a total of 18 ooints during the compe- tition, Gwen INnkbeiner, Centralia, was named the junior girls' champion as she obtained few' firsts for 20 points. :Dakliwood also showed its su- premacy on the baseball dia- mond during the afternoon by winning both the junior and senior softball, championships. The Dashwood seniors de- feated the combined team of Shipka-Greenway in. the finals to take"' that division after Ship- ka-Gfeenway had defeated Sha- ron. and Crediton in earlier rounds. Crediton put out Shiva Blackbuste to gain a berth in the ,semi-finals against Shipka. Bev Prost started for Exeter ,and got credit for the win al- though he was relieved in the third by David Cowan. Exeter picked up six runs in the first inning and five more in the next three innings to salt away the contest. Larry Willert smashed two and Uilke Nagel added a sin- gle and a double for the home town boys. David Cowan crash- ed a triple, Bev Prest a dou- ble and Billy Farquhar a sin- gle as Exeter picked ep 12 runs on seven hits. However, they eeceived nine walks from the two Centralia pitchers, Page and Burton. Wisigham turned a meagre four hits into four runs while Exeter managed to get only a single counter on the same number of bingles. Dick Harris, on the mond for the Lanes, whiffed one and walked 'two to go with his four - bitter. Hugh McMillan struck out four and walked four in pitching Wingham to victory. Lyle Little led. the Exeter hitters by smashing two ,singles and scoring the bowlers' lone run. Jim 'Carey crashed a dou- ble in the first inning to drive in Exeter's i:un after Little had singled.
