The transport department! has raised the cost of permits! to $2 instead of the current $1 levy. At the same time, the charge for the first examination for an operator's or chauffeur's license will be increased from $1 to $3. The rules of the road and sign recognition examination are written but simple, accord-; ing to the dep't. A. stiffer writ- ten test and road test are given before an operator's or chauffeur's license is granted. The increased fees are neces- sary because the province's new system of driver examina- tion is more costly to operate, 1 the official said.
