71 wishing enthusiasts among
the area youngsters have their
way, 1,000 speckled trount won't
have long to bet.ome accus-
tomed to their new home in
the Morrison dam.
The trout were put in the re-
servoir last week and will be
at the mercy of the youngsters
when the official trout season
opens on Saturday, April 29.
As usual, anyone under the
age of 16 is excluded from the
first week of fishing, but after
that it's every fisherman for
himself.
Fieldman Hal Hooke told the
T -A that he was not on hand
when the fish were put in the
river and has no idea what size
they were. "We'll just have to
find out when they come out,"
he commented.
.According to Tom Beck, On-
tario Department of Lands and
Forests Conservation officer,
adults will have other spots to
try their luck before they get
it chance at the new stock at
the : rorrison reservoir.
He reports that 10 creeks and
three ponds within a radius of
50 miles of London have been
stocked with speckled and rain-
bow trout, all between eight and
11 inches in length.
"We've put between three
and four thousand fish in these
ponds," Beck revealed.
• He named two streams in the
Strathroy area as among those
stocked this spring, but failed
to. disclose the others.
"Don't want to make things
too easy for the fishermen," he
laughed.
3milt 'running
Several area enthusiasts have
enjoyed good luck in hauling
smelt .out of Lake Huronso far
this. season.
The tasty fish have been run-
ning for the past week and
fishing is expected to be good
for at least another week. Some
report tha'; the fish are even
larger than in previous years.
