A well -coached, scrappy
bantam squad :from Strathroy
pulled one of the major upsets
in the Georgetown tournament,
I Friday, sidelining a favored
Exeter squad '7-4 in a two -game
series in the semi-final round
of the "D" category.
The Exeter Legion squad,
towering head and shoulders
over their small rivals, couldn't
get tuitrackeci as Rocket star
Don Emms had his entry play-
ing a tight defensive game,
content to wait for the breaks.
They scored a 5-2 win in the
first game of the series and
then came back to battle the
locals to a 2.2 tie in, the second
match,
After playing two easy se-
ries, when they ran up large
scores against Delhi and Mead-
owvale, Exeter couldn't cope
with the Strathroy crew in the
first game. Although 'they man-
aged to carry their share of
the play, they were stopped
time and again before they
could get their shots away,
Bill Ca mpbel I. paced the
Strathroy crew,scoring twice in
the game, with single markers
going to Hiltz, McArthur and
Westgate.
Gary Parsons and Allan
Thompson were the Exeter
5 Marksmen.
o Hiltz opened the scoring at
5 the 6:00 mark on a goal hotly
6 contested by the Exeter crew.
5 Callum McPhee had the shot
0 blocked and appeared to have
it covered, but Hiltz banged
the puck and McPhee's glove
away from the little netminder
and then shot the disc into the
net.
Exeter knotted the count ,at
the 13:22 mark when Bob Burns
flipped a pass from behind the
net to Gary 'Parsons, and Par-
sons found the top corner with
his backhand shot.
Campbell bit for his first
at the 10:00 mark of the mid-
dle frame and then McArthur
gave the Strathroy six a "3-1
lead in the early minutes of
the third period on a play with
Westgate.
Allan Thompson, one of the
best men on the ice, cut the
lead to 3-2 at the 4:35 mark
when he took .a pass from
Peter DeVries and hit the open
corner with a hard shot from
the left side of the net.
However, Strethroy came
back with a strong attack in
the last half of the period and
Campbell and Westgate trig-
gered. goals 40 seconds apart
to wrap up the contest ,and
take a three -goal margin into
the second game.

Defensive battle
The Strathroy bantams were
at their delenrite best in the
second game and came up with
a 2-2 tie as they covered Exe-
ter players on every play. They
killed considerable lime in the
first two periods of straight
time by icing the puck when-;
ever Exeter started to put on
the pressure,
. Bob Barns opened the scor-I
mg at the 10:00 mark of the'
first period on a play with his
linemates Mike Cushman and
Gary Parsons. The goal cut
the Strathroy lead to two goals
in the round.
However, in the second pe-
riod, Hiltz and Campbell fired
apair past Neil Hamilttn to
give Strathroy a 2-1 lead in
the game and, a 7-3 margin in
the series,
Mike Cushman knotted the
count in the game at the 12:15
mark of the middle frame on a
solo effort but in the final 15
minutes, Strathroy'.s goalie
came up with several dazzling Exeter

Ninth a mixed 'spiel this week -
games in the Georgetown tour-
nament, showed no bad effects
from their tiring schedule, as
they completely dominated play
in the contest.
Mike Cushman, Gary Par-
sons and Jack Glover were the
sparkplugs in the win, trigger-
ing two goals each into the
Lambeth net. Brian Fortune
notched the other.
Neil Hamilton came up with
several good saves to record
the shutout in the Exeter nets.
The sudden -death final was
made necessary as ice was
taken out of the Lucan arena,
Sunday. The game concluded
the Shamrock Minor Hockey
League season. Exeter copped
both the bantam and junior
crowns, Zurich won the juvenile
division, Oakridge Acres WW1
the "B" pee wee and Hensall
won the "0", and Lambeth won
the midget title.
A report in last week's T -A
that Exeter had already won
the bantam title was incorrect,
It should have read that they
won the semi-finals by ousting
Oakridge Acres.
Jack: "I suppose that we
had better break off the en-
gagement and say that we had

Palmer's youthful enthusiasm
and "hit it hard" gospel, along
with the irrepressible will to
win, have caused him to dom-

has since Ben Hogan's salad

Readers should certainly be
able to improve their game by
