UC women prepare
to launch new group
Plans ere moving slowly and
.carefully for the latinehing of a
new organization, "The "United
Church Women," on January 11
i962.
The group will.unite all the
women of exiating organize
-
dens and invite all the women
of the United Churches to share
tO A much greater extent in
all the Work of the cherch
within the •congregation, in
presbytery and conference and
m the various boards of the
church Under General Cowl-
' tie
t This month a letter has one
forth from the General Cowl -
cif office to all presidents of
organizations asking that two
or three members he mined to
a ,representative committee to
assist the minister of the con-
gregation in planning for a
meeting of the women's organ -
4 izations and other women of
' the church some time in Aprilo
1961.
At this meeting a provincial
committee will be •elected to
plan and prepare for the er-
ganization of "The United
Church Wont en."
Very shortly another letter
will e:o forth to chairman of
presbyteries and presidents of
conferences concerning the set-
ting up of provisional commit-
tees at Presbytery and confer-
ence levels. It is hoped, hese
will be organized in May 1.961.
The duties of the provisional
committee will be to see that
alt women of the cougregaion
are informed about. the new ore
eanization in all Its aspects:
to study ways and means by
which The United Church
Women can hest be organized
in the congregation; to plan
for the use of the 1062 pro-
grams for which material will
be available; •to appoint a
committee on nominations to
prepare a slate Of exeeutive

This organization of all the
women in the United Churches
into one group is no swift or
sudden movement, For a long
time the trend in _many
churches has been to fewer but
more ,effective womea's or-
gatuzations and it has been felt
that a more inclusive organize -
tion would reach many women
not now: active in any group
and that all women within the
church should he related in,
and part of. the whole work
of the church.
Meanwhile the work of pres-
ent organizations must eon-
tinue through the remaining
months of the year at the high-
est possible level of efficiency
and concern. At the same time
members should be aware of
the preparations being carried
forward by the provisional
committee.
