Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Knight left on Tuesday to spend Christ- mas and the New Year with their son, Ross and his family in Edmonton, Alta, Mrs. Thomas Allen who has been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, has been moved to South Huron Hospital. Mrs. H. J. Snell of Oakridge Acres and formerly of Exeter is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. MacNaugh- ton, Heather and Johnny are leaving on Friday to spend the holiday in Florida. Mrs. Harry Cole spent a few days at Ann Arbor, Mich,. this week. Billy Armstrong, youngest son of Mr., and Mrs. Irwin Arm- strong, underwent an operation, on the tear duct of his eye at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, on Monday. He returned home on Tuesday. Mr, and Mrs. R. D. Jermyn left Friday for a vacation in Flo- rida. Mr. and Mrs. William J. ' Mr. and Mrs. Bev Skinner, town, and Miss Phyllis Hern, London, flew to Chicago on Saturday to visit with their sister, Miss Perla Hern, Who is an airline stewardess with North, Control. She returned with them to visit for a few days. Mrs. Ann Shriner, New York, who has been visiting her sister, I Mrs. Arcihe Morgan, is a pa- tient in South Huron Hospital with virus pneumonia. I 5. Dudley E. Holmes, who served the Huron county courts for 27 of his 14 years, died Monday in the Clinton General Hospital. Until his death Mr. Holmes was the magistrate of Huron county, a post to which he was appointed by order -in -council on Aug, 8, 1948. He was the coun- ty's crown attorney for 17 years. Mr. Holmes was the third gen- eration of his family to con- tribute to the government of Huron County. He succeeded his father, the late D. E. Holmes, Huron Crown Attorney who be- came Simcoe County Judge. His grandfather, the late Dr. W. .1. R. Holmes, was treasurer of Huron County at one time. He had been absent from the courts for about a month due to illness. Mr. Holmes was born in Gado - rich and movcd, at age seven, to Wingham where he began his education. After graduation, from high school and Osgoocle' Hall, Toronto, he practiced law in Goderich from 1920. He. was appointed crown attorney in 1931. His maternal ''erandfather, the late Archdeacon Ellwood, was a former rector of St. George's Anglican aura., Goderich. A veteran of the First World War, he 'enlisted in the 161st Battalion, Canadian Expedition- ary Force,iand went overseas as a ieutenant. He later trans- ferred to the Royal Flying Corps. He was wounded and in- valided home with the rank of captain. Mr. Holmes is survived by his wile, the former Helen Mac- Lean; two daughters, Mrs. Rob- ert (Helen) Burnes, Windsor; Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Fergu- son, Terrace, TI.C.; three sons, Dudley, Listowel; 7ohn, Otta- wa; Donald, Sarnia; two broth- ers, John Goderich; Patrick, Fort Wayne. Ind.; a sister, Mrs. W. Moore (Sydney) Kelly, Hard- wiche, Mass., and 15 grandchil- dren. ...... ..... . . The story in Zion • By MRS. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Morgan were Area resident dies at age 101 Mrs. Henry Wiliam Stone- man, one of Huron county's roldest residents, died Wednes- -4.1ay in the Ruston Nursing Home, Mitchell, at the age of 101. She was the former Mary Lavina Hotham and she lived in Hensall for a number of years. Her husband predeceased her a number of years ago. She is survived by one son, Sunday guests. In the old days a man who saved money was a miser, now- aday's he's a wonder. Carl, of Cromarty, and two daughters, Ella, Mrs. William Dinnin, Brucefield, and Edith, Mrs. E. M. Barnes, Galt. Private funeral service will be held at the Bonthron chapel, Hensall, on Friday at 2 p.m. Rev.
