Here is a colorful salad which
• tan be made ahead of time to
ovoid the last minute rush.
Layered Holiday Salad
1 pkg. lime flavored gelatin
2 cups hot water
• 1 cup seedless white grapes
or ,well -drained crushed pine-
. apple
x2 cup chopped celery
• These four ingredients make
up the first layer. Make gelatin
; in usual fashion and when par-
tially set add fruit and celery.
Chill this layer until firm.
• For the second layer soften 1
• pgk, unflavored gelatin and le
`, cup cold watre. Dissolve in 1
,. cup boiling water, Add 'e cup
r ee small tin) frozen lemonade
concentrate. Beat in 32 cup
nnayonaise or other salad dress-
ing.
4 For the thirdlayer dissolve
', 1 pkg. cherry -flavored gelatin in
hot water. .Add 1 can (16 oz.)
fruit cocktail including syrup.
This salad is very nice made
in a ring mold. When turned out
it has green layer on top, then
white layer, then red fruit layer
on bottom. Cottage cheese is
nice served in centre of this
ring salad.
Serve dressing withthis, using
the balance of the tin of lemon-
ade concentrate ('a cu.p), blend
with le cup salad dressing and
3/2 cup whipped cream folded in.
It's time to plan for Christ-
mas cookies and candy. Mrs.
L. Holland gives us a recipe for
fudge which she says is good
and easy to make.
Perfect Fudge
li cups white sugar i11 cups brown sugar
1 cup butter and pinch of salt
2 generous tbl of corn syrup
/ cup of milk.
Put on stove and stir until all
sugar is dissolved, Boil for 71
minutes from start of boiling;
remove from fire and let cool,
Add vanilla, nuts, cherries, or
whatever combination you pre-
fer and beat until smooth.

Member's of the Ladies Aux-
iliary to South Huron Hospital
.were guests of the hospital staff
at the December meeting held
Tuesday afternoon in the Aux-
iliary room.
In a short business period con-
ducted by the newly elected
president, Mrs. Fred Dobbs, it
was voted to accept responsibi-
lity for organization for the 'TB
clinic in May. It was noted that
plans were underway for Christ-
mas decorations and favors for
the hospital, staff' and patients.
Miss A Claypole, hospital su-
perintendent, presidedfor a
program. including a medley of
carols played by Mrs. Ken Otte -
well, who also accompaniedfor
the singing of carols led by Miss
Maxine Reeder. Misses Doris
and Margaret Johns entertained
with duets accompanied by their
mother, Mrs. Fred Johns.
Lunch was served by the
staff to a large attendance with
a good representation from sur-
rounding districts. Bulletins
ztumbering 110, edited by Mrs.
C. S. MacNaughton, public re-
lations convener, had been sent
out prior to the meeting.

W. A. Thomas, MP for Mid-
dlesex West„ was guest speaker
set. the December meeting of. Clo-
verdale Women's Institute on
Thursday evening. He spoke on
the subject of pensions. He was
introduced by Mrs, Fred Hea-
en an.
Citizenship was the theme of
the meeting. Mrs. Bruce Vernon
discussed the motto "No one is
rich enough to be without a
reigh'bor." Roll call was ans-
wered with ",Something money
can't buy."
Mrs. Clifford Ritchie, conve-
ner of the program committee
presided and conducteda ilis-
+cussion of Christmas ideas. Mrs.
Fred Heaman and Mrs. Clay-
ton Dixon favored with a piano

cipe is for:
Oatmee$ Shortbread.
1-3,4 cups butter
1 cup brown sugar sifted
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups fine oatmeal
174 tsp. salt
Make into two rolls, Chill. Cut
in slices and bake in slow oven
until lightly browned.
For unbaked cookies she sug-
gests:
Chocolate Marshmallow Cookies
21 marshmallows, cut in
small pieces
1 cup icing sugar
1i 4 cup walnuts
1'2 cup coconut -
1 egg well beaten
3 squares chocolate (un-
sweetened) melted
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix and form small balls and
roll in coconut.
When baking holiday cookies
remember to keep crisp and
soft varieties separate. They
may be stored in the same tin
if each variety is separately
packed in small plastic bags.
Even chocolate squares will
keep moist if stored in this man-
ner,
These busy days when the elec-
tric beater is in frequent use cat
a slot in a paper napkin or pa-
per plate and place over the
beater of your mixed to help cut
down on the splatter.

The Local Association met at
thw home of Mrs. Gerald God -
bolt Thursday evening with Di-
vision Commissioner, Miss Lau-
retta Seigner, and leaders of
local Brownies and. Guides in at-
tendance.
Mrs. G. Shipman was ap-
pointed to represent the Associa-
tion on the Huron Division Camp
committee. She will keep the
group and community informed
about Camp Kewaydin, Airs. G.
Alickde and Mrs, R. Snell volun-
teered for the sewing commit-
tee.
The proceeds of the Scout
Leaders tea and dinner
amounted to $169 which was
shared equally by the Local As-
sociation
s.sociation and the Group Com-
mittee.
The Association decided to:
Give Captain Mrs. Tomlinson
money to purchase a Christmas
tree stand for all the groups at
the Scout Hall to use,
Revise the phoning lists. Mrs,
R. Grassick volunteered to as-
sist in phoning.
Get patrol boxes for Guides
and Brownies similar to the ones
used by the Scouts.
Provide new drapes for, the
stain room at the Scout Hall.
Donate $15 to the building fund
of Provincial headquarters.
Give two dollars to the badge

held at Centralia

in a double -ring ecremony per-
formed at the United Church
Manse, Centralia on Saturday,
December 5 at 2.30 p.ni. by the

The bride chose for her wed-
ding a dress of frosted Mug ny-
lon over taffeta and net,'Phe
fitted bodice 'vas styled with cap
sleeves and.,, the skirt was bouf-

quips and pearls and carried a
white Bible ,rested with red
roses and streamers of white
ribbon and rose buds. •
The bride's .attendant was Mrs.
William Heather, St, Marys, sis-
ter of the groom who wore royal
blue with white accessories and

for services
0GIT groups everywhere in all
the 10 provinces are getting
ready for the annual ,Christmas
Vesper service. It is a service
for the rededication to the ideals
and purposes of the movement,
Services will be held this.
Sunday, December 13, in Cen-
tralia Veiled Church at 8 pint.
and in ,lames Street United et
7 p.ni. Next Sunday, December
20, the CGIT wilt take the ves-
per service in Main Street Unit-
ed at 7 p.m. and in Cavan
Presbyterian at 7:30 p.m,
Dressed in the white middies
and navy skirts of the CGIT
uniform, the girls will sing
familiar Christmas hymns and
join in readings and prayers.
The climax of the service
comes, with the lighting of three
candles to symbolize the mean-
ing of CGIT purpose. Many
groups are assisted by a choir
with special Christmas music
and some have a speaker,
Canadian Girls In Training is
an interdenominational move-
ment under the Canadian Coun-
cil of Churches, Its activities are
many but its chief purpose is to
present the Christian way of life
to teen-age girls.
The vesper service is not for
members alone. The public is
invited to attend and take part,
