Acting Group Captain Thomas
J. Powell, CD, 46, of Vancouver,
B.C,, formerly commanding of-
ficer of the RCAF's Institute of
Aviation Medicine in Toronto,
has been appointed officer com-
manding the medical selection
unit at RCAF Station Centralia,
air force headquarters has an-
nounced.
Born in Nantwich, England,
G/C Powell is a graduate of
the University of Toronto where.
he obtained his BA in Bi61af
and Medical Sciences and later
his MD. He interned in Van-
couver.
During the Second World War,
G/C Powell served with the In-
dian Army Medical Corps on
the northwest frontier, and in
the Middle East. He joined the
RCAF in 1948 and served in
medical capacities at Stations
Greenwood, N,S., and Trenton,
before doing medical research
work at the RAF Institute of
Aviation Medicine, Farnborough,
Hampshire, England,

choir.
Mr. Ford also expressed
thanks and announced that a new
class for band beginners would
begin early in January. He said
that there will be room for 25
new members at least eight
years of age. Interviews will be
held in the town hall by Mr.
Ford Thursday afternoons.
After the program, Mr. God -
bolt expressed special thanks to
Mrs. Hogarth and Mrs, Wooden
whose Brownie packs ushered.

Surprise party
marks birthday
Abuct 65 friends gathered at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al-
bert Horlock and daughter, Don-
na, Orangeville, for a surprise
birthday party on Saturday for
Kevin Delbridge, Brampton, for-
merly, of Exeter. He was pre-
sented with a black initialed
onyx ring.
A four -piece band played for
dancing with a salad supper af-
terwards.
Out of town guests included
Jack Taylor, Bill Pincombe, Bill
Belling and Gib Dow, all from
Exeter; Ed. Coatsworth, Jim
Van Nick, Ron Burk and John
Knights from Ridgetown and
Fred Lewis of Orangeville for-
merly of Lucan.
Mr. and Airs. Jack Delbridge
and Diane visited with Kevin
and the Horlock family on Sun-
day.

cent visit to her home town in
Romania and tours of other ci-

by Bob S'uthcott.

Bowden and Simon Nagel, lucky
chairs, Mrs. Eldrid Simmons, for

Board hires
new teacher
Exeter Public School board
Monday engaged Mrs. Don Mac-
Gregor, iixeter, to teach the re-
mainder of the school year,
She will replace Mrs. Marilyn
Heinrich who has submitted her
resignation to be effective Jan-
uary 1.
The board also approved pur-
chase of a $114 encyclopedia and
Mrs. Jack Waldron and daugh-
ter, Kathy, of Grand Bend,'
spent a few days with her
mother, Airs. Mabel Hockey.

Mrs. Allen Fraser is a patient
in St, Joseph's hospital, London.
She underwent surgery Wednes-
day morning.
Mrs. John Fletcher, Pay Flet-'
cher, Mrs. Flossie Cornish, Mr.
and Mrs. Don Hooper and family
visited, on Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Ron" Fletcher, Woodham.
Mrs. Lillian Blair was a week-
end guest with her daughter
and family.
Dr. Bruce Palmer of Hazelton,
B:C., called at the homes of
Air, and Mrs, W. C. Pearce and
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wildfong
on Tuesday. He was travelling
from the home of his mother
-at Norwich to Wingham to visit
other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs, George E.
Rether have taken oyer opera-
tion of the snack bar at RCAF
Station Centralia. They assumed
duties on December 1.
Mrs. Herb Ford is improving
in St, Joseph's Hospital, having
fractured her hip in a recent
fall.
Box holders at the Exeter
Post Office will be able to get
their mail on Sundays, Decem-
ber 13 and 20. The north lobby
will be open from 9 a.m. to 7
7 p.m.

ON CANCER EXECUTIVE
Fred Dobbs, past president of
the Exeter branch, Huron Unit,
Canadian Cancer Society, has
been elected to the executive
committee and the board of
directors of Ontario division of
the Society.
He was recently re-elected
chairman of District No. 9 at its
annual meeting in Galt, 'There
are 11 county units in the dist-
rict. Guest speaker at this
meeting was Dr, T. B. Brewin,
Hamilton Capper Clinic.
