These caramel apples are so
easy to make—and delicious too!
Caramel Apples
° 1 14 -oz. bag caramels
• 2 tablespoons water
4 or 6 medium size apples,
washed and dried
Melt the caramels in the top
of a double boiler, Add the
water and mix well, Push a
wooden stick into the stem end
of each apple. (The sticks come
right in the bag along with the
caramels).
Dip the apples in the caramel
syrup and turn until the surface Over 60 attended the meetine
3 quarts of popped corn, salted
Place the caramels and water

Heat, stirring frequently until
the caramels are melted and
the sauce is smooth. Pour over
the popcorn and toss until every
kernel is coated.

waxed paper and place in the
refrigerator a few minutes until

The speaker was introduced by
Mrs. Verne Alderdice and thank-
ed by Alrs,. Arthur Finlayson.
The motto "The family is still
the central and most important
part of society" was discussed
by Mrs. Campbell Eyre. Mem-
bers answered the roll call by
taking a friend and introducing
her. Mrs. Ross Broadfaot favor-
ed with a piano solo, Mrs. Wil-
mer Brcadfoot, a reading and.
Mrs. Robert Gemmell conducted
contests.
During the business period
plans were made for observing
the 25th anniversary of the
branch when all former mem-
bers will be invited to an after-!
noon meeting to be held its the
Memorial Centre auditorium en
December 18 to be followed wi'h
a euchre and dance in the eve-
ning,
Family night will be held
November 6 in the Legion Hall,
I-Iensall when a turkey banquet
will be served the husbands and
families. A euchre and dance
will be held the third Friday in
January. A donation of five dol-
lars \vas voted to the Tele .Milk
• Ship Fund.

Hastings group held the fall
meeting preceded by a pot luck
supper in Crediton Community
Centre on Tuesday evening with;
40 members and friends attend-
ing including members of the
executive of the Central P'icnic,
London.
Mrs. Roy Morenz, president,
and Mrs. Les Adams, secretary,
were re-elected for another
term. Mrs. Ervin Rader presid-
ed for the election.
Prizes to the four youngest
housewives went to Mrs. Ray
Sweitzer, Mrs. Stuart Sweitzer,
Mrs. George Latta and Mrs.
• Hubert Schroeder; the lucky
chair prize to Mrs. Jeanne Grace,
London, and the anniversary
prize to Mrs. Wes England.
Mrs. Harry Sheppard and
Mrs. M. Clark, Crediton, favored
with two musical numbers on
the piano and violin. Mrs. E.
Rader and Mrs. F. Stade; Dash-
wood, presented a skit "Mrs.
1889 visits Mrs. 1959."
The, next meeting will be held
in April with another pot luck
supper to be convened by Mrs.
Ross Krueger, Mrs. M. Feist,
Mrs. M. Clarke and Mrs. Aaron
Wein.

Sixteen leaders from nine 4-H
homemaking clubs attended a
two-day school in Hensall Octo-
ber 21 and 22 with the course
conducted by Bette Tillman,
home economist
She was assisted by Mrs. Tan
McAllister, Zurich, past home
economist.
The fall project for 4-H pro-
jects is: "Keeping clothes closets
uo to date" and the course in-
cluded instruction on how to
make garment covers, laundry
bags, shoe packs, hat standards
and other accessories.
Leaders will return to their
home clubs and instruct their
own members on the project,
Achievement day will be held
in January and anyone between
the ages of 12 and 26 may be-
come a member,
There are 29 organized home-
making clubs in the county with
membership totalling 350. Two
previous instruction classes
in the county have been held.

way, Brussels and Mrs. Gordon
McKenzie, Seaforth.
The class was tendered a lun-
cheon at Armstrong's Restau-
rant, Exeter on Friday as guests
of the Department of Agricul-
ture.
Miss Tillman - will be seen on
the Roy Jewell TV show over
CFF'L on Friday evening this
week discussing this project.

Instead of shaping caramel
popcorn into balls, spread on
lightly greased baking sheet.
Break apart when surface is
dry,

Decorated Caramel Apples
Make caramel apples as shown
above. While caramel coating on
apples is still soft, decorate with
Life Savers, colored candies and
raisins, to make faces and de-
signs on the caramel apples.
Use shredded coconut or shredd-
ed licorice for hair.

Caramel Apple Ghosts
Make caramel apples. Use
candies, Life Savers or cake
decorator to make ghostly face
on caramel apples. Push the
bottom end of the caramel stick
into another apple so that the
caramel apple will stand up-
right. Put a white paper doily
around the stick to make the
ghost's shroud.

Grand Bend Legion held its an-
nual meeting Monday, conduct-
ed by the president, Mrs. John
MacDonald.
Comrade Mona Finch was In-
stalled as secretary for the re-
mainder of the year, Mrs, E,
Keown resigned and left for the
winter months, Comrade Emily
Tennent was installed as stand-
ard bearer to replace Comrade
Gladys Duggan who has moved
to Kitchener.
Plans were completed for the
annual Hallowe'en party on Fri-
day, October 30. All members
were asked to attend and bring
