Caramel Apples ° 1 14 -oz. bag caramels • 2 tablespoons water 4 or 6 medium size apples, washed and dried Melt the caramels in the top of a double boiler, Add the water and mix well, Push a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple. (The sticks come right in the bag along with the caramels). Dip the apples in the caramel syrup and turn until the surface Over 60 attended the meetine 3 quarts of popped corn, salted Place the caramels and water i in the top of a double boiler, Heat, stirring frequently until the caramels are melted and the sauce is smooth. Pour over the popcorn and toss until every kernel is coated. With hands lightly dampened, 4 is completely coated. Scrape the. excess caramel sauce from the bottom of the apples. During the business period plans were made for observing the 25th anniversary of the branch when all former mem- bers will be invited to an after-! noon meeting to be held its the Memorial Centre auditorium en December 18 to be followed wi'h a euchre and dance in the eve- ning, Family night will be held November 6 in the Legion Hall, I-Iensall when a turkey banquet will be served the husbands and families. Huron Waves of the Mary Hastings group held the fall meeting preceded by a pot luck supper in Crediton Community Centre on Tuesday evening with; 40 members and friends attend- ing including members of the executive of the Central P'icnic, London. Mrs. Roy Morenz, president, and Mrs. Les Adams, secretary, were re-elected for another term. Mrs. Ervin Rader presid- ed for the election. Prizes to the four youngest housewives went to Mrs. Ray Sweitzer, Mrs. Stuart Sweitzer, Mrs. George Latta and Mrs. • Hubert Schroeder; the lucky chair prize to Mrs. Jeanne Grace, London, and the anniversary prize to Mrs. Wes England. Mrs. Harry Sheppard and Mrs. M. Clark, Crediton, favored with two musical numbers on the piano and violin. Mrs. E. Rader and Mrs. F. Stade; Dash- wood, presented a skit "Mrs. 1889 visits Mrs. 1959." The, next meeting will be held in April with another pot luck supper to be convened by Mrs. Ross Krueger, Mrs. M. Feist, Mrs. M. Clarke and Mrs. Aaron Wein. S.i (o• ii.w.ii i.iwtil 4 Sixteen leaders from nine 4-H homemaking clubs attended a two-day school in Hensall Octo- ber 21 and 22 with the course conducted by Bette Tillman, home economist She was assisted by Mrs. Tan McAllister, Zurich, past home economist. The fall project for 4-H pro- jects is: "Keeping clothes closets uo to date" and the course in- cluded instruction on how to make garment covers, laundry bags, shoe packs, hat standards and other accessories. Leaders will return to their home clubs and instruct their own members on the project, Achievement day will be held in January and anyone between the ages of 12 and 26 may be- come a member, There are 29 organized home- making clubs in the county with membership totalling 350. Two previous instruction classes in the county have been held. Leaders attending the school included.
