Frank B. 'Dixon, chairman of the board of directors, launched the enterprise in 1917 with the purchase of a half -ton truck for $640. Two one -ton vehicles were add- ed in 1919 and the firm acquired its first authentic furniture van in 1920. Today is has a large fleet of trailer vans, packing trucks and pickups. The Dixon firm handles over 60,000 pounds of furnishings—or about 10 households—every day of the year, The service includes emptying the house, packing and transporting the goods, un- loading and setting the furniture in place in the new location, One of the number of examples of efficient service provided by Dixon's was the move for a family from this area to Van -4 couver recently. When .the family departed, they left the home as they had lived in it and simply threw Dixon's the key: Five days later, when the :family, ar- rived in Vancouver, they found their new home ready for im- mediate occupation. The furni- ture, dishes, drapes and paint- ings were set in their places al- most exactly as they had left them in their old house.
