Pili Party returns to TV on
October 14 with Allen Millar as
emcee and Allan Blye as the'
regular vocalist. Gordis Tapp
felt that he was just too busy
to give his best to two television
programs and decided to stick
with Country Hoedown and by-
pass the afternoon show.
But Tommy Common of the
Hoedown cast is going to try an
extra show. On Monday at five
he begins hosting a new show
designed for teen-agers. The
program, Youth '60, will have
Wally Koster, Whipper Billy
Watson, the Harmony Kids and
an instrumental group as its
first guests and will also feature
Toby Robbins and Barbara Ham-
ilton in a sketch about Florence
Nightingale, Two teenagers will
assist Tommy.
Lloyd Bochner is currently in
Israel taping stories for CBC
radio's Project '60.
Austin Willis and Kate Reid
will see little of each other for
several months, Austin has been
signed for the second male lead
in a J. Arthur Rank movie
"Pick-up Girl" and Kate will
join the Canadian Players in
their U.S. tour playing in "The
Taming of the Shrew" and "The
Cherry Orchard".
This is the tipie of year for
new shows and the return of old
`favourites'. Juliette comes back
Saturday night and Bobby Gim-
by is still with her,
Bob Goulet who has been sign-
ed for the six Wayne and Shus-
ter spectaculars starts his win-
ter this Sunday in a straight
dramatic role on GM Theatre.
Rehearsals for Bob's Broadway
debut have been, postponed for
several months.
King Ganam who gave up his
Country Hoedown spot when he
was asked to sign on for an
extra four weeks this summer
has evidently had a change of
heart. I'm delighted to see that
he will return to the show when
it comes back to the air on
October 9. Incidentally, the pro-
gram comes on at a new hour
this season—eight o'clock.
Patti Lewis who was about to
be signed as femme vocalist on
the Wayne and Shuster spectac-
ulars backed out of the show
when producer Don Hudson said
'No!', to her manager's demand
that he be allowed to sit in at

all rehearsals.
The fact that her manager,
John McCadden, let her give up
a choice spot on TV to preserve
his pride is petty and inconsist-
ent when one considers that
managers and agents are paid
to get work for their clients not
to prevent them from working
because of supposed personal
affronts.
There is no reason why Mc-
Cadden should be allowed to sit
in on all rehearsals; no other
manager has ever made such a
request. But then no other man-
ager in Toronto, to my know-
ledge, has ever tried to play
Pygmalion to an already well
stacked Galatea.
Could it be that McCadden
hoped to cash in on some of the
publicity that has been plaguing
CBC for the past few months?
Perhaps he thought that critics
would jump to his defence and
bring out the bold type head-
lines, He was wrong.
I agree with Bob McGall,
CBC supervisor of variety, who
says "It's unfortunate that her
manager has let such a small
matter stand in the way of her
career."
