The Lucan-Clandeboye Young
Peoples' Union held its opening
fall .meeting, in the Clandeboye
ehureh last Sunday night. In the
absence of the president Terry
Culbert, the vice-president, Jan-
ette Blake presided.
Plans were finalized for the
Weiner roast at Fanshawe, Fri-
day evening, September 25,
leaving the church at 7.30 p.m.
Beverley Butler's group took
ever for the balance of the meet-
tng—UN.Ltd. and a film in con-
nection with the Canadian Ap-
peal for funds for children of
war-torn countries.
The next meeting October 4
will also be held in the Clande-
boye church when members are
asked to attend the Harvest
Home service there, at the close
of which a business meeting will
be, held and the choir and guest

Though a number of Exeter
bingo players attended • the Le-
gion Auxiliary bingo last Thurs-
day night, yet, for once they
ell went home empty4handed,
but not so Granton.
Mrs. Jahn O'Connor was really
kicky. She not only won a second
bingo but shared the first part
of. ‘the consecutive bingo with
Mrs. Arthur .Hodgins of Clande-
boye and won the second part
herself. The third part went to
Mrs. A. E. Reilly, who also
shared a bingo with Mrs. Pat
Grudge.
"Share the Wealth" was shared
by Mrs. Harold Butler and Mrs.
Richard Davis, both of Lucan.

Miss Audrey Lamb of the Men-
tal Health Clinic, London was
the guest speaker at the Septem
ber meeting of the Lucan WI
held in the Community Memorial
Centre, last Thursday night.
Miss Lamb enlarged on the
progress made in the treatment
of health patients during . the
past few years. She told of her
own experiences in the "after
care" of patients and recited
many amusing incidents,
Her talk was' followedby the
showing of the picture "Stigma"
by Mr. Douglas Torney and Miss
Marion Myers, also of the Lan-
don Health Clinic. Many mem-
bers and visitors took advantage
of the opportunity to ask Mr.
Torney questions at the close .of
the picture,
Mrs. Dave Park, Home Eco-
nomics and Health convener,
moved a vote of thanks.
The motto of the meeting was
"A merry heart doeth good like
medicine, and good health and
good sense are two of life's
greatest blessings," Roll call
was answered by "a good home
remedy."
Lunch convener was Mrs.
Frank Hardy, who was assisted
by Mrs. Erle Young, Mrs. H, B,
Langford, Mrs. Harold Hodgins,
Mrs. William Brownlee and Mrs.
Edgar McF'alls,
Guests included members from
the West McGillivray WI and the
Birr WI who put on the program.

son, former Lucan public school
teacher, .and two mouth -organ
selections by Mrs. Wes Lewis,
accompanied by Mrs, Erwin
Scott were the former's contribu-
tion to the program and the Birr
branch staged a word contest
which was won by Mrs, William

During the business 'session,
Mrs. Al Bromwich, Mrs. Erle
Young, Mrs. Wes Atkinson and
Mrs. C. H. George were named
a committee to make the neces-
sary arrangements for the Sales -
Armand demonstration. Mrs.
Murray Hodgins was named al-
ternate district director. The
WI executive will be in charge
of •ar•ra,ngements for family night
meeting, October 15.
Mrs. Benny Saulnier and Mrs.
Wes Atkinson represented the
WI at the cancer • dressing meet-
ing in the Anglican church base-
ment Tuesday evening. Mrs.
Irving Gibson and a number of
volunteers offered to cut the
dressings In the afternoon.
The November meeting sched-
uled for an evening meeting was
changed to an afternoon meet-
ing owing to hockey.
Mrs, Wes Hodgins and Mrs. C.
H. Geprge were named represent-
atives to attend all L U C A N
meetings ont the third Monday
of each month. Mrs. George
Paul and Mrs. Jack Steacy were
named 2 committee to make ar-
rangements for the postponed
visit to the Woolen Mills at
Hespeler.
It was voted to again donate
$5 to the Blind Institute,

Mr. Harold. Ribson, now of Ona -
ping, who attended the recrea-
tion course at Western University
last week, called on Lucan
friends last Thursday, He re-
ported all like their new home
and Mrs. Ribson's Lealth is
much improved.
On Thursday and Friday eve-
nings, Sept. 24.25 the Horne and
School Association is sponsoring
a Canada Packers' Cooking
School at the Lucan Community
Memorial Centre.

Mrs. Seymour White reported
on the 4-11 Achievement Day at
'Medway High School, "The Birr
Nifties" club is directed by
Mrs. White and Mrs, Allan Mc-
Nair. Mrs, White reported that
a slip made by Sylvia Corsaut
had been chosen for display at
the CNE and that Evelyn Hod-
gins and Carol Stanley competed
at the Western Fair. Record
hooks, slips and a county pin
earned by Barbara Bilyea were
on display,
Mrs, W. W. Garrett and Mrs.
Harold Hodgins Jr. were ap-
pointed leaders for the next 4-1I
project, "The Milky Way."
Plans were made for a mil-
linery extension course in Feb-
ruary. A donation was voted the
Canadian National Institute for
the Blind. Roll call was answered
by telling "What I would do if
I were on the Council."

Mrs. Charles Brumwell's group
and by Mrs, N. A. Bilyea.

program and the hostess was

Double -ring. rites
at Paris church
Baskets of ferns and gladioli
formed the setting in the Pres-
byterian Church, Paris, at 3
p.m. Saturday, September 19
when the Rev, W. Kennedy unit-
ed in double -ring ceremony,
Elaine Abbott and Stephen
Homick.
The bride is the daughter of
11 fir. and Mrs, Clayton Abbott
of Paris (and granddaughter of
the late Mr, and Mrs. Alonzo
Abbott, RR Lucan). The groom
is the son of Mr. Frank Homick
of Brantford and bhe late Mrs.
Homick.
Given in marriage by her fa-
ther, the bride wore a floor -
length gown with tiers of ,lase
and net over satin, featuring
long lace sleeves and sequin
trimmed bodice. A shoulder -
length veil of net fell from a
close -fitting cap of lace arid net
studded v:'itih seed pearls and
sequins. She carried a cascade
of red rose buds and stephanotis.
Her sister, Miss Colleen. Abbott,
as maid of honor, and Misses
Rowena Abbott of Lucan and
Juanita Ross of Paris as brides-
maids, were gowned alike in
white nylon chiffon over .taf-
feta, pink feathered head dress-
es, white accessories and carried
cascades of pink carnations and
gladioli.
Mr. -Lorne Homick was grooms-
man for his brother. Mr. Ted
Sobcyzk and Mr, Peter Owsiak
were ushers.
At a reception and turkey din-
ner in the Ukranian Hall, Brant-
ford, the bride's mother re-
ceived in a royal -blue brocade
costume with pink gladioli cor-
sage.

brown accessories and matching
corsage,
The young couple will make

meeting last Saturday evening at

she lived till hospitalizedin the
Egerton and St. Joseph's Hospi-
tal, London.

Dr, F. T. Rosser, vice-presi-
dent of the National Research
Council of Canada, has been
elected president of Canadian
Patents and Developments Ltd.
Dr, Rosser was born in Den-
field, trained in the London
Teachers' College and holds his
MA with honors from the Uni-
versity of Western Ontario,
