"In May this year," Mr. Ellis
reports, "this fish was hooked
solidly on an eight; inch line, us-
ing minnow bail;. The angler
played his Batch for. over 400
yards downstream and hack be-
fore landing it in a hand net.
But when he lifted the net, the
twine broke and the big trout
escaped.
"Enthusiasm mounted again
when two skin divers reported
the trout still living in the depths

before taking refuge in roots

removed 28 artificial. spinning

duck season for hunters through
out the area. I
"Duck hunters should be care-.
ful to note some rather import-'
ant changes in the regulations'
and the bag for 195.0, Due tot
poorer production of ducks this,
spring and summer in the north-
ern breeding grounds, duck bag
limits have been lowered slight-
ly to .enmpe:nsate for the decline
in population in most of Canada.
Ontario the daily bag limit
has been reduced to 6 (from .8
as it has been. for many years).
The possession limit is the two
days hag of 12. There have been
no changes in the limits on
geese, rails, coots, gallinules,'
snipe or woodcock. The daily
bags are 5 for geese (10 posses-
sion); 25 for rails, coots and
gallinules and 8 for snipe ..and
woodcock (16 possession).
"The seasons are much the'
same, In this district the season'
will be from 12:00 noon, October
'3 to December 15, except in
Essex County where geese may I
be taken from October 3 to
December 31.
"Hunters can use power boats
to retrieve crippled or, dead
birds within 20 yards of their
blind, and if thein guns are un
loaded. Most important to re-
member is that the daily bag of
six MAY NOT INCLUDE MORE
THAN four canvas backs and
redheads, and. not, more than
eight may he in possession,
"This added restriction is im-
posed since these two species
are expected to be most serious-
ly affected by the drought in the
western prairies,
