Ryckman,l Exeter; Mrs. Lorne McNaugh ton, Cromarty; Mrs. Skinner, Edimville, Gwen Hendrick of .Kippen gave a reading and Mrs. Marion Bell, Hensall read the address while Lynda Bell and Larry .Johns pre- sented miscellaneous gifts in a decorated wagon. Monday will be hobb day — any child who has a hobby may bring it to the arena to b judged, Tuesday will be decoration da for all: bicycles, wagons, dot buggies etc. Wednesday will b the field day, the races, game etc. Prizes will be awarded. Baseball games are more ex citing than ever as teams near the finals. So let's encourage the 'boys to win their last games by attending the games. If anyone has a three -speed re cord player which he would like to donate to' the arena for fall and winter, skating, it would be appreciated. Also needed are some popular records, if you have any kindly call 247-W. Mrs. Douglas Brintnell read an address after which Miss Doreen Kenney and Miss Lynda Stires - presented the guest of honor with a decorated basket of gifts, Miss Kenney conducted a number of games. Presbyterian church notes Large congregations attended services in Carmel Church Sun- day morning. Mr. G. C, Vais chose for his theme "The Cross That Inepir.es." Mrs. William Brown was soloist. Friday evening the Young •'Peo- ple are holding,a wiener roast at the beach north of Drysdale. Personal items Mrs. Ann Hopkins of Hillsdale, Ill., is holidaying with her sis- ter, Mrs. H. McMurtrie. Mr. and Mrs, .1. C. Cochrane of Seaforth were recent visitors with relatives here. Bob and Ann Mickle spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. William Mickle and family at Sauble Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Don Joynt, John and Pat, are spending 10 days vacationing at their cottage at Manitoulin. Miss Irma leipfer of Toronto, spent the weekend at her hone. Recreation activities are be ginning to get high stride as i nears the end of its schedule Two more weeks and it will b ever again for another year. Interest is quite high. Las week we took over 74 children t Seaforth for swimming. The boy and girls on the basketball, vol leyball and softball teams ar working hard to bring thei points up in these games. Ct Coates The funeral of the late Thoma C. Coates, whose sudden deal took place in Hensall on Satur day was held Monday afternoon from the Bonthron funeral cha- pel, Hensall, with Rev. Currie Winlaw and Rev. Chas. D. Da- niel, officiating. Interment was in the Exeter cemetery. • A large number of friends from Hensall, Exeter and Usborne, as well as a number of relatives from other places were present; to pay their last respects. Mr. Coates passed away sud denly during the early hours of Saturday morning. He was in his 63rd year. 'McArthur family picnics at Exeter Sixty members of the McAr- s thur clan attended the annual h picnic at Riverview Park, Exe- Deceased was born in Usbotne Township, son of the late Rich- ard and Alma Coates, He at- tended school at Eden and the Exeter high school. He was united in marriage thirty-six years ago to Elva "larvey, of Usborne. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Coates lived in. St. Tho- mas for a year and then returned to Exeter where, for a number of years, he operated the Exe- ter Motor Sales garage. Ten years ago he moved to .Hensall where he took over the Hensall Motor Sales garage. In fraternal societies he was affiliated with. Lebanon Forest Lodge 133 AF & AM Exeter, and Independent Order of OddfelIows, Exeter. He was also a member of Hensall Chamber of Com- mrce and member of Hensall United Church. Surviving besides his wife are one daughter (Elaine) Mrs. Bill Taylor of Germany who is due to sail home July 29 with her husband andthree. children; one brother, Frank Coates, Exeter. The bearers were. Milton Lav- ery, Harry Horton, .'tack Coates, Harry Coates, Whitney Coates and Maurice Coates. Shower bride Mr. and Mrs. E. Chipchase, Jack, Billy and Arleen, left on Saturday by motor for a two week's holiday in Calgary, Al- berta. Bill Shaddick left Saturday with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ab. Shaddick, and his cousin, Gerald Shaddick of Clin- ton, for Sauble Beach, for a week's vacation. Mr. and. Mrs. C. Christie and daughter are on vacation. Mrs. Jack Horton and daugh- ter, Mrs. Jack Day, flew down from bodsland, Sask., and are spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Paterson.
