Truck hits.
bridge.here
About 6.30 last Wednesday
night a heavy tractor trailer
tarrying a 28 -ton hyciro trans-
former collided with the super-
etructure of the bridge on No.
4 Highway_ just west of the vil-
lage, spilling • a quantity of oil
on the bridge and along the road,
necessitating the re-routing of
traffic around the old road to
Clandeboye until 'the oil could
be sanded down.
The driver of the truck, E.
R. Kirk of Aylmer, told tete
police he realized the transform-
er load was too high for the
bridge, as he started down the
hill, but .he was unable to stop
the heavy vehicle in time to
avoid a collision, The truck is
owned by William Thompson of
8t. Thomas. Little damage was
done to the bridge. The trans-
former carried 2,700 gallons of
oil.
Department of Highways was
Notified of the accident. The
bridge structure was inspected
before traffic was permitted to
proceed. Constable Don P'etti-
grew of OPP London investi-
gated.
