Sprinkle 'gold dust'. on brownies
during mother -daughter banquet
Exeter Brownies formed a
eirele on stage at the Legion
Hall Wednesday night while
their leaders sprinkled 'gold.
dust' on the shoes of ten Brow-
nies who were ready to receive
their golden bars.
Guides and mothers watched
this highlight of. the annual mo-
ther and daughter banquet of
the Exeter Girl Guide Associa-
tion.
"The golden bar is the second
step in the developing life of a
Brownie," said Miss L. Seigner,
divisional 'commissioner, wh o
presented the awards. "The next
goal is the golden hand. If you
are goad Brownies and work hard
you will get your golden hand
andbe able to fly up to Guides
when you are old enough."
Brownies receiving bars were
Pamela Ersman, Mary Coch-
rane, Elizabeth. Snell, Roberta
Grassick, Ann Robertson, Bren-
da Wilson, Mary Ann De Vries,
Kathy Corbett, Barbara Came-
ron and Linda Wells.
Four Brownie leaders were
presented with warrants by Miss
Seigner.
"After a Brownie Leader 'bas
handled a pack for three months
she receives a Warrant and can
do testing. These leaders suc-
cessfully handled their packs. It
takes time and effort •and plan-
ning and we are grateful to
them," said Miss Seigner. She
also expressed the hope that
some of the mothers present
would become leaders in the
Pall.
Warrants were presented to
144rs. Tom Kerr, Mrs. Joe Wood-
en, Mrs. James Wilson and Mrs.
Elmer Jones.
Mrs, Bren DeVries, a Guide
'Arid Brownie mother, was guest
Brownies with bees and listed
eight facts about bees, then
pointed up the ways in which
young girls are, or shpuld be,
similar.

Mrs. Fred Dobbs Jr., public
health nurse, was guest speaker
at the home economics and
health meeting of Hurondale
Women's Institute heldat the
home of Mrs. Harry Dougall last
Wednesday evening.
Mrs. Dobbs showed a film on
diets for health with comments
and afterward conducted a ques-
tion and answer period.
Mrs. J. Ferguson. commented
on the motto "If you would win
friends, be friendly."
Mrs, William Sims gave a re-
port of the district annual held
at Grand Bend and Mrs. A.
Dougall. reported ,on the officers'
conference at Guelph.
Mrs. William Rowcliffe pre-
sided for the program and first
vice - president Mrs. Richard
Etherington conducted the busi-
ness. The roll call was answered
by each member paying the total
of her telephone number which
realized $6.25 for the treasury.
Hostesses assisting Mrs. Doug-
all were Mrs. W. Lamport, Mrs.
Lee Webber, Mrs. J. Ferguson,
Mrs. Hugh Love and Mrs. Riney
Keller.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Alvin Moir
ypeaker at the banquet. on the evening of Wedttesday,

Guide Captain. Margaret Tom-
linson proposed the toast to the
queen and Carolynne Simmons
accompanied the gathering at
the piano as they sang the Na-
tional Anthem.
Head table guests were intro-
duced by Betty Kerr. Mrs. Cor-
bett proposed the- toast to the
mothers.
Miss L. Seigner proposed a
toast to the Guide and Brow-
nies. "There are no finer people,"
she said. "There are more people
at this banquet than we ever
had before and we are pleased
that: Guides and Brownies are
doing such fine work in Exeter.
The young people of today are
the grownups of tomorrow. If

expressed her pleasure at the
targe turndut and thanked the
Legion Women's Auxiliary for
the. banquet.
Guides and Brownies then sang
"Bravo . , . Well Done" to the
ladies of the Legion.
Following the banquet, movies
were shown by Mr, C. Tomlin-
son.
It was announced by Miss
Seignerthat a section of the
pinery was set up to handle
Guide and Brownies camping
and that girls might begin think-
ing of a weekend outing some-
time in the future at the new pro-
vincial park.

riage to Mr. Paul Ronald Fer-
ris, Port Colborne, son of ?4r,
and Mrs. Alvin Ferris, Shel-
burne on :Saturday, May 30 at

service in James Street 'United.
church, decorated with white
candelabra, fern and pink snap-
dragons. Mr. Lawrence Wein,
organist, of the .church, played
the wedding music and accompa-
nied the soloist, Mrs. Ken Wood,
Wingham, who sang The Wed-
ding :Prayer and. Oh, Perfect
Love.
The bridalgownwas fashioned
with strapless bodice covered by
an overbodice of brocaded Alen -
eon lace with rounded neckline
and three-quarter length sleeves.
It extended into a deeply folded
panier which was caught up be-
hind with a large .lace bow. A
shoulder -length veil was held by
a double circlet of seed pearls
and sequins, She carried a bou-
quet of pink ruses and stephano-
tis. -
Attending the bride were Miss
Nancy Morris, ' Burlington, as
'maid of honor, Miss Donna Fer-
ris, sister of the groom, Shel-
burne, as bridesmaid and Doreen
Willis, niece of the bride as
flower girl. The senior attend-
ants and the soloist were gowned
alike in street length dresses of
green floral print with nile chif-
fon cummerbund and floating
back panel. They wore matching
headdresses and carried white
shasta daisies and ivy trailers.
The flower girl wore yellow ny-
lon and headband of yellow dais-
ies and carried a miniature rep-
lica of the other attendants.
Don McCuteheon, Shelburne,
was best man and Terry Besley,
Aurora, and Craig Thomson, To-
ronto, ushered,
A reception was held in the
Legion hall where the bride's
mother received in a brown and
beige ensemble with matching
duster coat, lime green acces-
sories and corsage of yellow
roses and carnations. The groom's
mother chose a two-piece. silk
suit with pink rose corsage.
For travelling to Lake George,
New York, the bride changed to
a blue linen dress with match-
ing duster coat, pink and navy
accessories and pink rose con
sage.
The couple will make their
home in Port Colborne where
the groom is employed, in the
design department of Jahn Deere
Welland Works.
The bride is a 1959 graduate
of MacDonald. Institute, Guelph,
and the groom is a 1958 gradu-
ate in chemical engineering

cascade of white butterfly and
pink delight roses,

as maid of honor for her sister
was gowned in mint green swiss
dot organdy, The ,fitted bodice
was fashioned with sabrina neck-
line and push-up sleeves. A high
cummerbund topped the full
skirt. She wore a matching pie-
ture hat and carried white shasta
daisies, minis and ivy. Dressed
identically the same as the maid
of honor were bridesmaids Miss
Mary Lou White, London, and
Miss Helen Sullivan, Sarnia,
Mr. :lack Pearson, Zurich,
was best man and 'ushers were
Ray Ducharme and Don Regier.
A reception was held at Green
Forest Lodge, Grand Bend, The
bride's mother received in a
beige ensemble of •silk organza
with mint green accessories and
talisman rose corsage, The,
groom's mother chose sky blue
from Ontario Agricultural Col-
lege and a 1959 graduate of the
University of Toronto,
