AlaY meeting of the and WA of Grand Bend United Church was held last Thursday afternoon. President o the WMS, Mrs, Douglas Gill, conducted the )1Beetlug, Tbe theme a the de. varinnat wa s 'Miser/Tering Neighborhood," and Mrs. Gill was assisted by Mrs. Emery Desjardtne. A bale of used clothing and five wool blankets was peeked and Sent .to Toronto. WA president, Mrs. Henry Devine, was in the chair for the WA portion of the meeting. Several dates were set for bake sales during July and August. Scout news May has brought the Grand Bend Cubs and Scouts more outdoors, The Cub meeting last Tuesday, May 5, was conducted by Cub In- structor John. Hood, due to the Unavoidable absence of the adult leaders, and John, being leader of a Scout Troop, was recom- mended for his leadership in this ea pacify, At the Scout meeting the next evening, flagbreak was followed by inspection, after which Skip per Peate gave a demonstration of plaster -cast making. This was followed by tracking and an im- promptu soccer game. The meet- ing closed with a yarn, followed by taps. During this meeting Troop Leader John Hood and Patrol Leader Gerald Stoddard were presented with Grade "A" All- round cords. To qualify for these the Scoutmust have his First Class badge, and earn six pro- ficiency badges. It is worth men- tioning that of the twelve badges gained by these Scouts, eight were Public Service Badges — in other words, those earned by learning to be of help in an emer- gency. Last Tuesday (he Pack meet- ing was held out of doors, and each Cub cooked his own supper meal. Some of the meals cooked were surprisingly good, and it seems thal. a good number of Cubs would make*useful home cooks in case of emergency. The group carried out a Com- munity Good Turn on Wednes- day. Together with members of the Grand Bend Lions Club (the sponsoring body) the Cubs and Scouts removed the accumulated debris from the beach area. In spite of cold weather everyone worked well, and a number of Scouts and Cubs were surnrised to see themselves on CFPL-TV the following evening.
