goes to Waterloo
Mr. Howard Kew began his
new duties with the J. C. Hall -
titan Co. Ltd. of Waterloo, last
Monday, Before starting work
for the Iceates Organ Factory
of Lucan 10 years ago, he taught
school at Delhi for two years.
Mr, Kew, who is a gifted or-
ganist, will be greatly missed
jn Lucan and community. He
was not only organist of the
United Church but gave freely
of his talent to Men's Club,
Lions Club; YPU and many
arena actvitiea,
He and Mrs. Kew were care-
takers of the United Church,
where he was one of the stew-
ards and treasurer of the Sun-
day School. He was also second
vice -president of the Lucan
Lions Club and the United Church
Men's Club,
Bingo winners
prove ads pay
At least two bingo players,
who attended the Legion Auxil-
iary bingo in the Legion Hall,
last Thursday evening, found it
paid off to read the Times:Advo-
cate, ads,
Mr. C. Taylor, who took his
ion to the bingo won the "Share -
the -Wealth and Bobby shared in
a bingo. Miss Muriel Carling,
who took her mother, won once
and her mother twice.
The consecutive bingo was won
by Mr, Arnold Campbell, Mr.
.Gordon Couples, Mrs. Schroeder,
Mrs. Jim Avery and Mr. H. B.
Langford. The five dollar jack-
pot was shared by Mrs. Omar
Cunningham and Mrs, William
Mathers.
It was really "old timers"
night however, with Mrs. Pat
ICrudge, Mrs. Richard Davis
each winning twice and Mrs.
Art Bell, Mrs, Clarence Young,
Mrs. J. Murphy once and Mrs.

The Lucan Ciandeboye AYPA
meeting was held in the Parish
Hall Sunday evening with the
president, Tom Tomes, in the
chair and Jane Steacy at the
piano. The devotions were taken
by the president.
During the business session it
was decided to hold the post-
poned rummange sale, Saturday,
June 6 in the parish hall,
Saint Nicolas singers
Holy Trinity church is honored
and fortunate. in having the Saint
Nicolas singers, a voluntary
group of city organists and choir
members, directed by John Cook,
the Cathedral organist, to offer
to present a musical treat in
Holy Trinity Church, Trinity
Sunday, May 24 at 4 p.m. This
is the first time the group has
gone out of the city to put on a
program.
Mother's Day service
The United Church held a spe-
cial Mother's Day service last
Sunday morning with a mother's
choir leading in the music and
the pastor, the. Rev. Edgar
Roulston giving the Mother's Day
address,
Mrs. Sheridan Revington, Mrs,
Harold Butler and Miss Beverley
Butler ushered. Mrs. Harold Cob-
leigh led in the responsive
psalm and Coralyn Donaldson
read the scripture lesson.
During the service six chil-
dren were baptized: James Jef-
frey, son of Mr. and Mrs, Jim
Young; Karen Dawn, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mason;

The Thursday Woman's pray-
er meeting was held at the home

Junior Choir pot luck party
The annual Anglican junior
choir party was held in the
church basement last Tuesday
evening and took the form of a
pot -luck supper for nearly 50
members and parents.
Through the courtesy of the
AYPA four films were shown.
The last film, "The Good Samar-
itan", done with marionettes,
was particularly interesting.

The monthly meeting of
Cooper's WMS was held last
Thursday at the home of Miss
Kate Jamieson. Mrs. Nelson
Baker, Mrs. Otto Reimer and
Mrs. Robert Elston were in
charge of the program.
The devotional service was
taken by Mrs, Elston. Mrs.
Baker had charge of the study
book, Miss Kate Jameson, tem-
perance secretary, gave a short
talk and Miss Florence Janie -
son gave a talk on "Missionaries
Reporting". Mrs, Alfred Baker
gave a reading on "Mother's
Day", Mrs. Elston had charge
of the business.

Entries increase
for music festival
The fourth annual" North Mid-
dlesex Music Festival sponsored
by the Lucan Home and School
Association will begin at noon
Wednesday, June 27 and continue
June 28 and 29.
Competitive cards are being
sent out this week to 543 entries
—an increase of 200 over last
year.
Lloyd G. Queen, assistant mu-
sic supervisor will be the ad-
judicator.
35th wedding anniversary
Mr, and Mrs. Bert Jackson, of

their 35th wedding anniversary
quietly in their own home.

last Monday night at a Fellow-
ship dinner, prior to launching
their $10,000 Middlesex Presby-
tery Capital Fund Campaign.
The guest speaker was E. K.
McLean of London, chairman of
the fund, who spoke on the cam-
paign projects; t h e United
Church residence on the campus
of the University of Western
Ontario; the Laymen's Founda-
tion for student candidates for
the United Church ministry; the
Kee -Mo -Kee camp in the Komoka
district; church extension, tele-
vision programs; Five Oaks
(near Paris) and Alma College,
St. Thomas.

CGIT was held in the United
Church School room last Monday
night with Mrs. Charles Sovereign
in charge of the devotions, with
Jean Marie Lankin assisting, All
the girls took turns in reading
the Indian story, "The Knocks
in the Night."
The craft period was given
over to the making of flowers for
the mother and daughter banquet,
the date of whicli has not been
decided on as yet.

CLANDEBOYE NEWS
Dismantle CNR station
to construct two houses
The Clandeboye station on the
CNR railway, has been sold by
tender and is to be removed. It
was closed in the fall of 1958,
This station was built to re-
place the old one destroyed by
fire, September 12, 1919, during
London Fair week. Passengers
arriving home at,night were sur-
prised to find the ruins, the fire
having started early in the
evening. The railway familiarly
known as the "butter and egg
special" was opened in 1876.
The station built to replace the
old one held living quarters for
the agent, freight shed and ticket
office all under one roof.
Purchaser was James Laye,
Parkhill, who drives a school
bus. He started to dismantle it
Tuesday and hopes to build two
homes front the material, which
will be moved by floats.
Working on the dismantling are
Jerry Flint, Parkhill, and Nor-
man Wilson, Clandeboye.
Another station at Denfield was
closed and removed last year,

At the United Church on Sun-
day the pastor, the Rev. Edgar
Roulston, dedicated a silver bap-
tismal bowl in loving memory of
Mr. and Mrs. Ward Hodgins,
given by their family.
Assisting at the baptismal ser-
vice, Mr. Stanley Tomes, uncle
of Deborah Louise Lynn, briefly
addressed a few words to the
congregation. Following his or-
dination on May 11 he leaves for
Kenora.
Five children received the
rites of baptism: Deb. .'ah Louise,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Lynn; Karen Ann, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coughlin;
Kenneth George, son of Mr, and

At St, James Church, the,
rector, the Rev. P. Prest,
spoke on Ascensiontide and the.
growth of the church, taking
excerpts from the 100th Synod
meeting of Huron Diocese which
was held last week in London.
The junior girls choir gave an
appropriate selection. The ser-
vice of Holy Communion was
observed,
Several young men, members
of the AYPA from Lucan, gave
a helping hand at St. James
Church on Monday afternoon in
removing the old plaster frog
the last; chancel wall, in pre-
paration for re -plastering by the
contractors. Other dontractore
are working an the outside of the
cherch, repairing some of the
brick and poihting it.

The Lucan Hydro are cutting
down trees so the hydro lines
can be moved to the west side
of No.. 4 Highway, north of
Clandeboye. The Department of
Highways has taken 68 feet of
land from the west side along
the highway.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Manson, of
Simcoe, visited with the latter's
mother, Mrs. Alvin Cunningham,
on Sunday, and also with Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Cunningham

The Biddulph and North Lon-
don Teachers' Association held
its May meeting in Mr. Leonard
Maloney's school on No. 23 high-
way.
The whole session was spent
in finalizing plans for the annual
field day seheduled for June 5
to be held in the township park,
Granton, weather permitting.
Evening Auxiliary
The Evening Auxiliary of Holy
Trinity Church held its May
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Norman Hardy last Wednesday
night, with 15 members present
and the president, Mrs. Charles
Corbett, In the phair. The assis-
tant hostesses were Mrs. Cecil
Lewis, Mrs. Clarence Haskett ancl
Mrs, Calvin Haskett.
During the business session,
plans were made. for a bake sale,
June 13, and Mrs. Cecil Lewis
and Mrs. Roscoe Hodgins were
named a committee to make the
necessary arrangements.
It was decided to join with the
senior branch in the showing of
slides on the study book, with
the senior branch to choose the
date,
Mrs. Jack Elson had charge of
the study book.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Alvin Scott
on June 10, instead of June 3,
owing to the Trade and Hobby
Fair.

The latter seven - month - old
puppy was the daughter of prize-
winning Una, who at Christmas
was sold and sent to Nova Scotia.
Of her seven puppies, five were
killed by the mother shortly after
birth. Mrs. Fred Thomson took
the other two home and attempt-
ed to raise them on a bottle, but
one of them also died,
The lone survivor was trained
by her 14 -year-old daughter,
Donna, who showed her at the
show last Saturday. In. apprecia-
tion for saving the puppy's life,
Mrs. Currie is presenting the dog
to Mrs, Thompson and Donna.
Lucan patients recovering
The four Lueanites, Mrs. Harold
Corbett, Mrs. U. F. Stanley, Mr,
William Brownlee and Mr, Aljoe
Culbert, who underwent opera-
tions in St, Joseph's Hospital,
are all making satisfactory re-
covery, Mrs. Stanley and ,Mr,
Brownlee are now home.
