mains in Clinton Hospital with
severe skin abrasions, but is in
satisfactory condition. Two pas-
sengers in the Arnistead car,
Gordon Fallows, 21, Seai'or-th,
and Raymond Mallough, 18,
Goderich, were treated for minor
injuries and released the same
night.
Armstead, who was travelling
east, was thrown out of the car
following the impact and the
vehicle rolled to a ditch at the
bottom of the hill,
The westbound I-layter car re-
mained near' the point of impact.
Damage to the cars was esti-
mated at $2,600.
A large• crowd attended the
fLneral service for Mr. Hayter
Monday at Goshen United
Church, conducted by Rev. T. J.
Pitt. interment was in Bayfield
Cern eters.
Born on the Goshen line. near
Zurich, Mr. Hayter lived on
several farms in Stanley Town-
ship. He was a member of the
Goshen church and of the Orange
.Lodge at Varna.
For many years, he was violin-
ist and floor manager with the
popular Murdoch orchestra which.
played for hundreds of neighbor-
hood dances.
Be served as warble fly inspec-
tor for the township and was also
a fertilizer agent.
Survivors include his widow,
the former Emily Tippett; three
sons, Elmer, Harvey, Mervyn,
alt of Varna, and one daughter,
Eileen, Mrs. Ken McLean, Hen -
sail; three sisters, Mrs. Alfred
Moffatt, Kippen; Mrs. Cecil Dow.
son, Varna; Mrs, Marvin Rout-
zon, Florida, and four brothers,
Lloyd, Lucan; Elgin and .Russell,
London, and Gordon, of Pontiac,
Mich.

you picture the terrific handicap
being placed upon this province
by those who are spreading
gloom at the present time?"

'No tea-party campaign'
Liberal leader John Winter-
meyer opened his Ontario elec-
tion campaign Monday night
witha fist -shaking speech which
denounced the Progressive Con-
servative government as "shop-
worn." He warned:
• "This will be no tea-party
campaign."
The 42 -year-old lawyer outlined
a 15 - point election platform
which promised, among its new
points, revised liquor laws, a
voluntary retirement scheme and
aid to small businesses.
He delivered his keynote ad-
dress at a nomination meeting
in his home town of Kitchener.

winning the grand award of $10, this picture won a monthly award of $5, plus the
weekly prize of $2.

Rev. Dr. H. H. Savage, popular
radio pastor from Pontiac, Mich.,
kill conduct a mission service at
Main St, United Church Tuesday
night, May. 19.
Dr. Savage will speak at Au-
burn and Wingham in addition
to Exeter in a tour through this
area.
He is described as a "great.
missionary enthusiast." His own
church in Pontiac has sent nut
many missionaries, particularly
to South America.
This summer, Dr. Savage will
be one of the special speakers
at the Canadian Keswick con-
ference.
