Wayne & Shuster
like Sullivan. -deal
By ELIZABETH TOUCHETTE
Met ,Johnoy Wayne for the first!
time recently. He is Just as plea-
sant as all thetreports I've heard
about him indicated. He tells me:
that he. and his partner, Frank
Shuster, are extremely pleased;
with their current deal with Bel
Sullivan,
"He's a fine man and we real-
'
ly enjoy working with him," said
Wayne. "He gives us complete
freedom in our choice of mate-
rial and actors and though we
usually bring a few Toronto ac-
tors down with us we do use
New York people too."
The comedy team has no in-
tention of moving to the States.
"Ed agrees that we would lose
our distinctively Canadian flavor
if we became Americanized.
Anyway it only takes an hour
and a half to commute from Tor-
onto."
Later in the day Wayne was
to see CI3C officials to line up
next season's contract here.
There's a chance that Wayne
and Shuster will be going to Eng-
land this summer too.
"We were offered a certain
sum to do three spectaculars
and we wrote back saying we'd
do two shows for a different
sum. Now we're waiting for their
reaelion. The shows would be
done no video tape sometime in
July or August, and shown in the
early fall."
VIP mere idea of anyone know-
ing about next winter's plans at
the CBC so far in advance set
couple of other performers
discussing current rumours for
summer replacetnents. The ru-
mour season is in full swing hut
so far nettling is final except
the fact that we will he seeing
reruns of almost every show that
we saw during the past winter.
`Rhapsody' will be returning,
and when 'Country Hoedown'
goes off the air at the end of
July, 'Don Messer's Islanders'
take over that time slot. Only
new show that seems likely to
roll is the Joan Fairfax all -girl
show (with male guests).
Alan BlYe tells me that he will
be guesting in two segments of
this projected aeries.
And Bernie Slade hints that
another of his shows might he
replacing his panel program
'(The of a Kind.'
