The Men's Club of Lucan
United Church held its ladies'
night banquet last Wednesday
evening in the school room of
the -church.
Gordon V. Banting, the presi-;
dent, acted as toast master. The
toast to the ladies was proposed
by Howard Kew and replied to
by Mrs. J. Alex. Young. Wilbert
Stanley proposed the toast to the
guests who had assisted with the
program during the year. This
was replied to. by Robert South-
eott of Exeter.
Miss Carolyn Donaldson, win-
ner of a trophy in public speak-
ing gave her address on "The
Development of Hydro." The
Hughes brothers favored with
guitar numbers, as did Ernest
Ross. Miss E. Birtch and Miss
M, Graham presented duet num-
bers with Mrs. Jack Eizenga at
the piano.

Rev. H. J. Snell of Exeter was
introduced by R.ev, E, M. Cook,
Mr. Snell gave a thoughtful ad-
dress interspersed wth humo ir,

Dies from attack
while cutting tree
1 The sudden death of William
Waugh of Carleton .Place oc-
curred recently.
Mr. Waugh was helping a
neighbor cut a limb off a tree

took a heart attack and
fell dead to the ground. Inter-
ment was in Carleton Place.
He is survived by his wife,
=the former• Pearl Johnston
(granddaughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. F. H. Neil of Lucan
and cousin of all the Abbotts
and Revingtons of Lucan) one
daughter, Linda and one son,
Delman, both at home.

Exchange vows
in London rites
White carnations and snap-
dragons formed the setting in
St, Michael's Church, London,
on Saturday, April 11, for the 10
a.m. wedding of Margaret Louise
(Peggy) Morkin and William
Blake Brady, Ottawa.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Mor -
kin, of RR 3, Lucan, and the
groom is the son of Mrs. Eliza-
beth Brady, of Nova Scotia, and
the late John- E. Brady, Father
P. E. McKeon officiated.
Given 'in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a floor
length* gown of white organza
over white taffeta. The fitted

her niece, Miss Kathleen O'Shea,
of Granton, as junior brides-
maid. The former `chose a cot-
inilian blue silk organza, waltz -
length gown over taffeta, fea-
turing a softly pleated bodice
with rounded neckline, very
short puffed sleeves, a bouffant
skirt, frilled hemline caught up

wore a matching flowered hat, ,
and carried a tea rose cascade.
The bridesmaid wore a gown
of yellow silk organza over taf-
feta, with matching headdress,
and carried shasta daisies.
The best man was Frank
Le Blanc, of Ottawa, and the
ushers, Kent Murphy and Kevin
Markin.
Mrs. Clarence Wand, of Lon-
don, provided traditional wed-
ding music and accompanied the
soloist, Mr. David Viglianti, of
London,. who sang "Shubert's
Ave Maria," "Panis Angelicus"
and "Mother at Your Feet is
Kneeling."
After breakfast at the Latin
Quarter ..,a reception was held
at the `ride's home where the
bride's mother received in an
ensemble of mauve silk crepe
with a yellow tea rose. corsage.
She was assisted by the groom's
mother, who chose a blue crepe
gown with pink delight rose
corsage.
For a honeymoon trip to New
York and Nova Scotia, the bride
changed; to a rust colored wool ,
suit with black and: white
accessories.
The young couple will make.
their home in Calgary.
The groom is a graduate of St.

Plan program
for annual fair
Progress is being made with
plans – for the annual. Lucan
hobby and trade fair, which will
be held June 3 to 4 this year,
according to Harold Ribson,
arena manager.
The fair will feature another
amateur show in addition to dis-
plays • of hobbies and crafts,
horse racing and professional
entertainment.

Institute euchre
buys arena trees
To assist in the purchasing of
trees for landscaping the arena
grounds, the Lucan WI last Fri-
day, sponsored a successful
bridge and euchre at the com-
munity memorial centre.
Winners of the seven table
bridge were Mrs. Sheridan Rev-
ington for high score and Mrs.
John Park, consolation.
Winners for the six table
euchre were Mrs. Erle Young
for high score, Mrs. Harry Car-
roll, consolation and Mrs. Wil-
liam Mathers for lone hands.
Mrs. Harold. Hodgins won the
lucky chair prize.

i Now for the first. time Canad-
ians will celebrate Library Week,
April 12-18. -
Mrs. Frances Whiteway, the
new head of the Middlesex Coun-
ty Library Cooperative,` visited
the Lucan library last Friday
and left a new supply of books.

For her ` party, Mrs. Stanley
wore a black and white silk, print
gown with yellow corsage pin-
ned to a paleblue wool jacket
and proudly displayed her many
floral donations, letters, cards,
and telegrams,

Airs. Stanley was the youngest
daughter of the late Michael.
and Elizabeth Fox. She was born
in a log house, a mile south of
Luean. Her marriage to the late!
James Stanley, an insurance
agent and auctioneer, in 1881,
united two pioneer families of
this district.
Mrs. Stanley lived alone in her,
cottage on Main. St, North, until
she was 90 years of age, when
she broke her hip. Since. then '
she has had a housekeeper.
