One of the top farm implement firms in the world, 11•Iassey- Ferguson now operates 16 fac- tories in various countries. A re- cent acquisition was the Perkins Diesel plant in England which will produce the motors for the company's units. The company, which employs some 24,000 people, hit a record sales peak of $440 million in 1958. Its target for 1961 is a billion. The 112 -year-old Canadian firm is banking on its new M -F 85 to substantially increase sales dur- ing 1959. This machine will offer the Ferguson system to large. - scale general farmers for the first time. The Ferguson system, which automatically controls the depth of plows and similar implements carried on the 3 -point hitch, also transfers weight to the power wheels in a manner that provides maximum traction under a wide range of conditions, This system has been proven in more than one million. tractors operating throughout the world. in the MF 85, it is available for the first time to apply properly the increasel power and weight of the larger tractor needed for to- day's big -acreage farm opera- tions. Constant and continuous hy, draulic power is available for the Ferguson system and for other hydraulic cylinders as needed. The familiar 3 -point hitch is equipped with special features for ease of attaching heavy im- plements. Wrist -action latches, in the lower draft links, and. hinged lift -arms permit easy connecting to wide -cut high- Capacity implements. The en- gine does the lifting.
