"It will provide. in- creased tractor efficiency of as much as 27 per cent under a wide variation of field condi- tions." Named the "Select -O -Speed", the transmission is described by the company as a 10 -speed, fully selective, power shift unit, com- I pletely controlled by one small !lever immediately below the steering wheel. There is no clutch pedal, or gear shift lever. It also has twp reverse gear ratios, and positions of "neutral" and "park." The 10 forward speeds have been engineered to overlap so that any operator can keep his tractor running at the most effi- cient throttle setting while choos- ing a ground speed ranging from one half -mile an hour, for preci- sion work, to more than. 18 mph in towing and highway travel. The transmission can be com- pletely disengaged when the trac- tor is being towed to job sites. When the engine is not running the transmission automatically goes into "park" position with the wheels locked. As a result, the brakes never need to be set. The convenience of the new unit, says the company, extends beyond ease of shifting. For ex- ample, there is an inching con- trol pedal, located where the foot clutch normally is found, that permits the tractor to move gent- ly and under precise control for WANTED White beans -- top prices paid WANTED Contract growers for malting barley ? ontcal.m and Parkland varieties available.
