( How About THAT! A BOUNCING BABY BOYI 8 Pounds, 6 Ounces And On The First Try Too! Yes, believe it or not, the population of Ex- eter has risen! The newest arrival to change the signs on the edge of town comes under the name of Richard Mark Gravett. Some tell us that this youngster is to be called "Mark" all through his life while still others believe he arrived with the nick- name of `Boom" and that's what he'll keep. In one of the local restaurants the other day, we were amazed to hear of the rapid develb.pments of this youngster.. We're told when he gets home on Thurs- day he'll continually stay awake through the late shows and cry all through the picture whether it's sad or a comedy. Jack Gaiser says he's going to be a hockey player! Georgeous George Rether says the town's finally got a decent right winger for the hockey club. "Moose" Heideman said he thought he saw him practising slap shots at the side of the hospital Monday morning. (Hope he shoots straighter than the ,old man or there won't be any windows left,) Bob Gage of the Free Press promised to get him lined up for the Goderich Tournament this year but he ran into a snag—safety pins are illegal! All kidding aside though, Mary and I are very proudof our newly born son and would like to thank everyone for the cards and gifts they sent. Naturally being sports -minded right through the family, we'd like to see "Mark" or "Boom" Jr. enjoy sports all through his life and possibly enough to make a profession out of one. However, whether he chooses this field or not, we're still mighty tickled to have him around even though it may mean walk- ing the floor every night in the week. Before we change the present subject, we have a slight problem and if anyone has a suggestion we'd appreciate hearing from you. George Mitchell, a free wheeling artist on the golf links wants to know how many strikes I'll give hi.in and "Mark" on the course this summer! He figures the two of them should have some. Brother, if anyone need 'emnow, it's me! EXETER BANTAMS GOODWILL TEAM Exeter Bantams could be called the goodwill club of Exeter. It is really encouraging to this corner when a team receives a letter from its opposition such as this club did last week when it was involved in the OMHA semi-finals with Blenheim. A strong point should be realized by this let- ter from Mr. K. G. Faulkner, publicity director of the Blenheim Kinsmen Bantam Hockey Club. To the parents of the boys that play on the local bantam squad, it must be gratifying to know that your boys have been watcl_ed carefully and appreciated by ab- solute strangers. They have conducted themselves with adult behavior in strange surroundings and have learned to face reality in the fact that one can- not be a winner all the time. Although Exeter drop- ped a heart -breaking decision to Blenheim, we sin- cerely think th t they won the top award of the playoff—new friends and a good name .for the com- munity. Coach Derry Boyle and Manager "Bunny" Ford should be lauded for their work in handling the team over the season. The Exeter Legion Bantams already have the WOAA Bantam "C" crown under their belt and if all goes well they could easily add the Shamrock Bantam. League title to their laurels as they lead a best -of -five series with Lucan one -to -nothing with one game tied. CUFF CLEANERS — We'd like to extend the best of luck to Lucan in their OMHA final Midget series with Keene , . , "Punch" Scherer's only comment after Mohawks' 7-0 victory was—"That was a rough one!" ... It certainly was nice to see Bill "Cottony Tail" Batten score a goal the other night , . Wil- liam says it was his first in six years! .. , Another thought makes him happy. He's passed Jacques Plante in the scoring race again! The slogan of "Guts, Goals and Glamor" could be pinned on the Toronto Maple Leafs now! ... If they get into the finals, watch out! .. Should be quite a series between Kitchener Dutchmen and Whitby for the Ontario Senior. "A" titleg to the win, , Congratulations iters of the Easter Bowl. Pre- suming the Mohawks knock Philipsburg (this is written 'Tues- day night) out of the running, Exeter will try and arrange a series with Dresden Lumber Kings for the WOAA • Grand Championship. A hest - of - five series with Dresden, WOAA In- termediate r'A." champs, is being thought over strongly by local officials. if the Mohawks win in New Hamburg Wednesday night, there could possibly be a game in Exeter Friday or Saturday, Philipsburg Obeys and the tribe are playing for the WOAA Intermediate "B" championship with the Mohawks leading 3-0 in games. Like 'Lum' Buddy hot "Punch" Imlach, of the Toron- to Maple Leafs, may be tired of looking at the acrobatics of agile Harry Lumley between the pipes for the Boston Bruins but it's cinch he isn't any more worried than Coach "Punch" Scherer, of the Philipsburg Chevs, is about the way Exeter Mohawk star "Bud" Dietrich has been •making bis sharp - shooters look like cream puffs. After the first game of the series in which Exeter pulled a red-hot: 3-2 decision out of the fire. on Heideman's late third period goal, "Punch," Scherer in this case, joyfully left the Exeter arena convinced that this could easily be a seven game series. After all the Chevs had outplayed Exeter most of the way and had thrown 43 shots at Dietrich while the Mohawks only managed to pump 25 in John Reinhart's di- rection.
