However, they were much relieved to find the report was a false alarm. The fire department was called but their services were not, re. quired and the 600 spectators in the arena at the time were un- aware of any trouble. Smoke caused by slipping belts of a compressor unit was the cause of the alarm. Teachers 1 meeting Owing to education Wipek's ac- tivities the March meeting of the Biddulph and North Middle- sex Teachers' Association was postponed one week and was held in the Granton school last Tues- day afternoon. The session was spent in a continuation of the in-service arithmetic program which the association hope to complete at the April rneeting to he held in the Lucan Public School. Lenten service Wednesday's Lenten service for Holy'Trinity church was held at the home of Miss Lina Ab- bott with the Rev. J. P. Prest continuing his talks on the daily readings of the week. Following the service, repre- sentatives from Lucan's three churches met to make plans for the 1959 Ecumenical Service to be held in the Pentecostal Holi- ness church Sunday evening, March 22. Following the dinner, a busi- ness meeting was held with the president, Tom Tomes. in charge of the meeting and the devo, Lions. A practice on the tableau to be presented at the ecumeni- cal service next Sunday was held. Plans for a dance to he held at the Legion Hall on April 3 were discussed. Young People from Lucan and nearby communities will be sent invitations. Another rummage sale was discussed with a tentative date of April 4 set. The St. Mark's Church AYPA will again be in- vited to the April 12 meeting. Palm Sunday will be celebrat- ed next Sunday with the distri- bution of pain crosses. Pentecostal Holiness Church The Women's Auxiliary held its March meeting at the home of Mrs. Meine Eizenga with the president, Mrs. Eizenga, presid- ing. Mrs. J. A. Graham led in the worship service. During the business session plans were made for the quilting of quills, for the sending of mis- sionary bales and for the mail- ing of Sunday school literature to African missionaries.
