Don't Believe In Advertising
Every time I hear soineon
utter this little speech—I ani re
minded of the old fellow who
kept repeating as he watched
one of the new

a cross the sky
"heh, quite

this is a free

You and 1 are
both free to say our say. Of
course there is also a good old
Canadian custom: that says, "We
need not always be in complete
agreement.'.' So ...
Horse And Buggy Advertising
When a man says he dosis not
believe in this er that, there is
usually a reason. I always try
to find the reason, when a man
%ays to me, "t don't believe in
advertising." Perhaps the fault
lies not with advertising but
with the advertiser.
Many advertisers today are
prone to regard advertising as
some unknown quality that may
or may .not bring results. They
plan their advertising an the
back of the nearest paper bag,
or run the same advertiseni.ent
weeks on end.
For this kind of advertising I
say, "T don't believe in this
either." "It won't get results."
1 admit that, here and now.
But :t do insist that advertising
can, and docs de a selling job
for people who take time to plan
and work with it.

you to get results and they are
willing to spend both time and
money to see that you do. This

ask your help in planning and
executing smart, intelligent ad-
vertising that will help you sell.
The Story Of The Man Who ..
Woke up to the chime of his
advertised alarm clock. Got up,
put on his advertised slippers,
shaved with an advertised razor
—ditto the shaving soap, lotion,
and talcum, Went downstairs,
ate his advertised breakfast
food, drank a very well known
brand of advertised coffee, kiss-
ed his wife, and got advertised
lipstick onhis cheek. Got in his
advertised ear, and drove to his
office. Arriving at 9 a.m. and
at 9:15 a,m, observed to his
secretary that he certainly "did
not believe in advertising."
Kinds makes a fella think, eh?
Questions You Should Ask
If by any chance you are the
type that says "don't believe in
advertising" ask yourself if you
have ever given rt a fair chance?
Have you planned and worked
with advertising representatives?
Have you kept your staff in-
formed of your advertising ef-
forts? is •your advertising sea-
sonal? Are you making the most
Of the national advertising done
of the products you sell? These
are just a few of the points that
Beed attention.
I am very much of the opinion
that it i5 no longer a case of
"Does Advertising Pay", only a
ease of "Mow Much Cad I Af-
ford?"
Good service, honesty, quality,
fairness in your dealings, ser-
vice to the public for a long
period M time, personal friend-
ships and contacts, "sure they
are important" but renieniber.
every prospective buyer is any-
body's customer till you make
the sale. You know you have
what he wants—Does he?
Modern telling Maxinit

every question — do you know
your customer's as well as your

It's difficult to generalize abut women in
most respects . . , each is so different in so
many ways! But when it collies to shopping,
hint; out of ten women follow the same
sensible plait, They .first study the ads in
this paper with their particular deeds in mind
, then go direct to the stores that offer
what they're looking for. If you want to start
