sending free tier till t on the school leads, without encroaching on
the general revenue of the country.
I would also recommend, that all the
school lands be immediately surveyed and
offered for sale, especially in the Townships
of Grey, Elma and Wallace, which would
give applicants a wider range for selection,
and would prevent squatting, which has al-
ready commenced in these T'owoships;
which practice, in addition to many other
evils, sever fail to engender the most law-
less babi:a. In proof of which, I may state
that the Godericb magistrates are almost
weekly engaged with cases of aassedt and
battery -forcible entries --throwing down
houses and sbasties, &c., all occasioned by
the coollicting claims of the original squat -
ten in the county of Bruce.
I trust that some of tbe above reasons
against a reduction of the present price of
the public lands, will be deemed worthy of
consideration before such a measure be a-
dopted.

From the above facts I think I am justi-

the School Lands been sold at I4a. per 'acre,
a host of speculators would hare been in the
field, buying the best and moot acceptable
portions of these lands, by which the set-

Gee ctrenmstance in farour of speculation

the Patent is issued, which enables to

The Reformers of Upper Canada have
