The gift of the groom was a
pearl necklace and earrings.
Three sisters of the 'bride were
her attendants gowned alike in
poinsettia red velvet with white
feather headdress and white ae.

ing tiny 'mums. This lily adorned
her mother's cake on her wed-

chaplain of Westminster Hospital,
London, .was master of cere-
monle for the toasts.
For traveling to places of
interest in Southwestern Ontario,
the bride wore a blue tweed cos-
tume under a mat of moonstone
grey orlon borg with white

The couple will 'make their
home at Bella Cocain., B.C. The
bride k a graduate of Chatham
General Hospital, and. has been
a member of the staff of the
United Church Hospital at Bella
Coola since, August, 1956.

Mrs. Shirley McAllister, home
economist for Huron County, was
a guest. at the fifth meeting of
the jolly This 4-H Homemaking
Club, held at the home of Mrs.
Alvin Moir last Tuesday.
Mrs. McAllister told the girls
what was expected of them on
Achievement Day, to he held in
Hensel'. on February 28.
Mrs. Moir reviewed the prod.
ucts of oats, corn, wheat and
bread, and Mrs. Bruce Tuckey
told of the different Boer
lures.
The girls • divided into two
groups with one group ma.kieg
macaroni with white sauce and
with tomato sauce, while the
others made oatmeal squares.
The next meeting will'be held
at the Morley home on Jan-
uary 14.

Bend, recently .celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding.
anniversary at a family dinner in Exeter on New Year's
Day. The couple farmed in Stephen until•retiring to Grand
Bend about a year ago.

mires is a person who is two-
faced about anything, but, in
this ease, the Romans were

might well. imitate Janus and
take a little time to look out at
the world about us and what is
going, on. At the same time let
us think about what is happen-
ing to Ourselves and our own
private world. R. doesn't do any
harm to take stock, particularly
of ourselves.
There's something so hopeful
about a new year stretching out
ahead. We are always quite sure
we will do better, not repeat
the old mistakes, There is al-
ways the possibility that some-
thing wonderful might happen.
There, too, is something sed
about looking back at the year
just gone. it ran never be. re-
peated and the opportunities lost
can never come again,

Couple Wed
57 Years
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Latta. Grand
Bend, were guests of honor at a
family dinner at the home. of
their daughter, Mr. and. Mrs.
William , Parsons, Exeter south,
on New Year's Day, en the occa-
sion of their 57th wedding
anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Latta are both
natives of Stephen Township,
Mrs, Latta tieing the former
Ethel Adair. They were married
January 3, 1902, and farmed in
Stephen until retiring to Green
Acres, Creed Bend, about a year
ago.
They have a family of five
sons, Ervin. Waterloo: George,
Grand Bend; Alex, William and
Garfield, London, and two daugh-
ters, Tartly, of London. and
(Helen) Mrs. Pareons, Exeter.
Two sort, Lloyd and Robert, pre-
deraeeed them.
The mole has 16 grandchil-
dren and 11. great-grandchildren.

The girls of the 4-11 Home-
making clubs in Huron County
are taking the project "The
Cereal Shelf" this term and have
almost completed their course
and are preparing for Achieve-
ment Day on February 28.
In the course they have been
cooking .dishes which use cereals
of some kind. One that is a
favorite is
Apple Oatmeal Squares
1 cup flour
1 sup oatmeal
a tsp. sada
a tsp. salt
to a cup shortening
a cup brown sugar
Mix thoroughly. Spread half
the mixture in a greased pan.
Cover with 2i sups sliced ap-
ples, Dot with 2 tbsps. butter
and a to 1 cup brown sugar.
Spread remainder of the mix-
ture on top,
Bake in a moderat oven for
40 to 45 minutes. Use as cookies
or hot with lemon sauce is a
dessert.
Another favorite dessert recipe
is
Peach Oats Crumble
2 cups canned peaches, -
coarsely cut
2 tbsps. lemon juice
tsp. cinnamon
1 lamp. butter
a cam melted shortening
cup hrown sugar
a cup flour
tsp, salt
lei). soda
a cup quiek-cooking oats
a tsp. vanilla
Arrange the peaches in a but-
tered baking dish and sprinkle
with lemon juice and cinnamon.
Dot with butter.
Combine dry ingredients, add
melted shortening, mixing until
crumbly. Add vanilla.
Spread mixture on peaches.
Bake at 375 degrees about 45
minutes. Serve warm with fruit
sauce made from the thickened
peach juice or cream,
if you thirsk. women never do

Mr. and Mrs. G. Wiliam Ar-
thur, residents of Exeter for the
past three years, celebrated
their golden. wedding anniver-
sary Saturday, December 27, in
their home community of Ander-
son.
The couple were guests of
honor at a dinner in Anderson
United Churah attended by 65
relatives and friends. Many
others extended best wishes to
the couple during an open house
in the afternoon and evening at
the home of their son, John Ar -

Mr. and Mrs, Arthur were male
tied on Christmas day, 1908, at
the home of the bride's parents,
the late Mr. and Mrs. john An-
derson, by Rev. John Veal, of

among the guests at the anni-
versary celebration.
Air. Arthur was born at lain -
hire but moved to the Anderson
community around 1903 when he
secured employment, on a farm.
