PAGE 19. antams rally for win Jim Mair of Brussels was rewarded for his long service to the agricultural society and the community when Brussels Agricultural Society held its annual meeting at Brussels United Church January 22. Presenting the certificate was Murray Hoover. 4-H club formed The trowels and tribulations of creating a vegetable garden, keep­ ing it growing, and reaping the benefits are discussed in a new 4-H project “Seed to Shelf’’. This project was developed to teach the essentials of where, when and how to plant a vegetable garden; what to plant and how to care for it until harvest. But this is only half the fun! When the produce is ready, the members will learn how to preserve their fresh produce by canning, freezing, drying and pickling. Howto exhibit and the judging of these products will also be discussed. By Achievement Day, the mem­ bers will have acquired new skills in growing vegetables and preser­ vation while having fun at the same time! Rodney Nicholson assisted by Mike Fraser and Jeff Earl scored the only goal. Brussels added two more goals and Howick one in the second period. Mike Fraser and Dean Nicholson scored the goals while R. Nicholson and Bruce Johnston made the assists. Brussels added three unanswer­ ed goals in the third to win the game 6 - 4. Mike Fraser scored two of those goals and Rodney Nichol­ son got the single. Assists went to Bruce Johnston and R. Nicholson. The Bantams will be starting their O.M.H.A. playoffs in Drayton on Wednesday night and at home on Friday night at 7 p.m. NOVICE The Novices were at home to Wallace on Friday night in a better game of hockey than their previous encounter even though they were defeated by 3 - 1 score. Randy Beuermann was the goal scorer assisted by Matt Lee and Brad Mulvey. They travelled to Huron Park for a much better game on Saturday coming home with an 8 - 0 victory. Matt Lee scored two goals with singles going to Wayne Alexander, Randy Beuermann, Brad Mulvey, Brett Clarkson, Jamie Smith, and Ryan Finch. Assists went to Wayne Alexan- , der with three, Randy Beuerman, Three, Tim Machan, two, Matt lee, one, Brad Mulvey, one, and Jeramy Van Keulen, one. Goalie Jeramy Scott played his best game of the year to earn his shut-out victory. ATOMS The Atoms were at home to Blyth on Friday in a good hockey game and went home with a 4 - 2 victory for their efforts. Brett Lee scored two goals for Brussels with Greg Clark and Grant Martin getting singles. The Atoms will be at home on Friday night at 8:30 for an exhibition game against a team from Kitchener. MIDGETS The midgets commenced their O.M.H.A. playoffs against Mild- may on Wednesday night and were defeated by the visitors. They will return to Mild may on Thursday night for the second game of the series. They travelled to Ripley on Saturday for the annual Midget tournament. They faced Mildmay once again in a close game of hockey, andwe re defeated by a narrow 2 - 1 margin. They played their second game against a team from Thornton. They were being defeated 3 - 0 until e u a the last seven minutes of the game when they came back to score three goals and tie the game. Wayne Wheeler, Sean Kuffer and Paul Coultesgot credit for the goals. They then went into a shoot-out and lost to the Thorton team. That was the second tournament when • the team has been beaten by a shoot-out this year. Better luck next time buys.
