The team was on the road Saturday night to take on the top team in the southern division, the Lucan Irish. Brussels’ Kevin Rut tan assisted by Murray Dewar and Tom Newbigging put the Bulls in the lead early in *he game but it was short-lived as Lt can came back to tie the game shortly after. Rollie Smith deflected the puck past the goalie before the period ended to give Brussels a 2 - 1 lead. The same end-to-end hockey action continued to be played and Lucan scored the first goal of the period to once more tie the game. The Bulls’ Jim Bender on a pass from Mike Vincent and Rob Cardiff beat the goalie to put Brussels in the lead once more as the second period ended. A line-drive from the blue line was in and out of the net before the goalie saw it to give Lucan a tie once more. The Bulls battled away short-handed for most of the period until the last three minutes of the game when Lucan took the lead and succeeded in keeping Brussels off the scoreboard to win the game. The team did well in keeping the opposition limited to a one goal lead in their up-hill struggle against opposing players and penalties as well. Sunday afternoon had the Jun iors at home against the visiting Mitchell Hawks. Brussels took an early two-goal lead with Paul Coultes and Tim Fritz combining for the first goal and Murray Dewar and Tom Newbigging getting the second goal. Before the period ended, Mitchell had scored two goals to tie the game at two. The second period belonged to the Bulls as they scored four goals in the 20 minutes. Murray Dewar picked up a hot-trick getting two more goals. He got assists from Tim Fritz and Tom Newbigging on the first goal and Kirk Whitfield and MikeSmithonthesecondgoal. Rollie Smith came through with the next two goals. He received assists from Jim Bender and Todd MacDonaldonthefirstgoal and Kevin McArter and Rob Cardiff on the second goal. Their four-goal lead quickly diminished in the first two minutes of the third period as Mitchell scored two quick goals. Brussels’ Tim Fritz assisted by Dewar and Newbigging combined to add one more goal for the Bulls. Mitchell continued to fight back and added two more goals for their efforts. The last minute and sixteen seconds Brussels played shorthanded with two players in the penalty box. Mitchell pulled the goalie for an extra attacker but goalie Mike Smith kept them scoreless for the remaining time, and picked up the 7 - 6 victory.
