BY RUSTY BLADES Last Tuesday,January 21 the Biyth novice team travelled to Ripley for a game and came home with a 10 - 2 victory. Biyth once again thoroughly outplayed Ripley and some fine, unselfish passing plays resulted in pretty goals for the novice squad. Puck control and passing was stressed for this game and, except More than 40 teams took part in the annual Biyth Broomball Tournament at Biyth and District Community Centre on the weekend. Action was hot and heavy around the Chiselhurst net when Chiselhurst played Waterloo in ladies action Saturday afternoon. Waterloo won 1 - 0. Biyth Atoms lose 2 games The hockey was tight and exciting but Biyth Atoms still lost both games they played last week. Things looked promising a- gainst Clinton I team Monday night, January 20 when it took only 19 seconds for Danny Van Bakel to give Biyth a lead on a pass from Mike McNichol and Craig Roul- ston. Unfortunately, that was to be the limit of the Biyth scoring as they couldn’t find the net again. Meanwhile Clinton scored two minutes later to tie the game then took the lead in the second period. Theteamswere scoreless in the final period. Danny Van Bakel was chosen Biyth’s offensive player of the game, Shawn Rutledge and Jason Elliott shared the defensive honours and Mike McNichol won the award for effort. Friday night the team visited Brussels for an exhibition game and took an early lead, but Brussels came back with twogoals on one shift to gain the lead and went on for a 4 - 2 victory. for a couple of defensive lapses in Blyth’s zone, this concept was carried out throughout the game. ThefirstperiodendedS - 1 for Biyth. Two more goals were added in the second period for a 7 - 1 lead and the final buzzer had the scoreboard reading Biyth 10, Ripley 2. The “Killer B’s’’ line of Bos, Benjeand Bromley led the awe some attack with seven goals and eight assists for 15 scoring points. Henry “The Scoring Machine’ ’ Bos scored two goals with line mates Mike Bromley and Benje Hakkers pickir g up assists on both goals. Benje Hakkers scored a nice goals as he was positioned perfect ly at the side of the net to take a pass from Henry Bos and slip it past the Ripley netminder. Mike Bromley notched four goals with two beautiful unassisted efforts, one goal assisted by linemates Henry Bos and Benje Hakkers and the fourth goal coming as a result of slick passing from Henry Bos and Jamie Bromley. Brian “Big B’’ McNichol came to the game with a shiny, new hockey stick and he didn’t waste any time breaking it in. “Big B“ scored two goals in the evening as linemates Jerrod Button and Christopher Howson assisted on his first goal and Jerrod Button and defenceman Jamie Bromley as sisted on his second goal. The “Auburn Connection’’ fin ally got things together with some fine passing by Jonathan Collins and Ryan Chamney resulting in a pretty goal by Peter Craig. Al though the game result was never in doubt, this game did give these young players a chance to handle the puck and take the time to make some unselfish passes to waiting team mates. Hopefully the team can take this confidence into upcoming games against stronger competition and keep the momen tum going. Thanks to Al Craig for lumbering through the crowd and providing popforthethirsty players. Next game is tonight, Wednesday, January 29 in Biyth against Mitchell.
