Ethel news WALTON NEWS Mrs. Betty McCall 887-6677 Duff's Church holds annual meeting Duff’s United Church congrega­ tional annual meeting was held Sunday evening January 19 follow­ ing a pot luck meal with approxi­ mately 35 in attendance. Bonnie Lamble chaired the meeting with Rev. Cheryl Ann Stadelbauer-Sampa of Egmond- ville in attendance. Marilyn Mc­ Donald was the secretary reading last year’s minutes. There was a moments silence in memory of Rae Houston, Dirk Boettcher, John Gordon and Grant Kealey who had passed away during the year. There were four baptisms: Kevin Wilbee, Kendal Carnochan, twins, Patrisha and Robbie Mc­ Clure and Joshua Nichol. There were two weddings, two transfers and three members transferring to other churches. There were very encouraging reports given by all organizations connected with the work of the church. There was a discussion of the Bluevale-Walton arrange­ ment. Everyone was pleased with the brighter financial support. Retired elders were Emerson Mitchell and Edith Wey. Trustees were Gordon Murray and Camp­ bell Wey; Steward, Brian Wilbee. The new chairman of property and finance is Murray Houston. John Gillis was added to the property and financial committee. It was decided there would be no Good Friday Service. Church service on Easter Sunday has been changed to a new time, 11:30 a.m. due to the pancake breakfast at Bluevale prior to their morning service. Palm Sunday will be March 23 at Duff’s with Rev. Cheryl Ann Stadelbauer-Sampa in charge of Communion Service. The next board meeting is set for February 23. On behalf of the congregation at Duff’s, Alvin McDonald expressed thanks to Bonnie for her leadership since she came to our church, saying all are glad to have her and her girls in the community and wishing her much success in the future. Brussels woman dies BETTY CHRISTINA PENNINGTON Betty Christina Pennington of Brussels died at her home on January 21, 1986 at age 58. The daughter of the late Chris­ tian and Matilda (Riehl) Horn, she was married to James Pennington who predeceased her in 1961. Surviving her are three sons: Earl of Goderich, Ken of Cam­ bridge and Kevin at home. She is survived by her sisters Ella Graber of Brussels; Viola, Mrs. Albert Johnston, and Mrs. Fred Shean of Mitchell and two brothers. Peter Horn of Mitchell and Fred Horn of Alberta. One grandchild, Jason also survives. The funeral service was held from St. John’s Anglican Church, Brussels, Ont. on January 23 with Rev. Robin Lyons officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Ken Graber, Carl Graber, Brian Hueth- er, John Pennington, Ron Gordon and Don Rolph. Flowerbearers were Dianne Huether and Iona McLean. • •••••••••••••• Community gets new member BY MARGARET McMAHON Rob and Christine Smith have a new little lady at their house. Michelle made her debut on January 6. The Education meeting of the Ethel W.I. was held at the home of Helen Alexander Mrs. Carmen Klaus of Walton was the guest speaker. She is a practising Reflexologist, Iridolo­ gist and Therapist. She explained Holistic health which is working with herbs and nutrition to improve one’s health. Mrs. Klaus men­ tioned white sugar as being a main culprit causing headaches and poor circulation the cause of other physical problems. She was thank­ ed for her informative talk by Mrs. James McMahon. The February meeting will be combined with the Cranbrook members on Tweedsmuir History. The Ethel members are respons­ ible for lunch. Ahealthylunch served by the hostess, Sharon Dobson and Barb Brube closed the meeting. EUCHRE Ten tables of euchre were played on Monday evening. The winners were: high lady, Dorothy Hamilton and Alice Stevens; low lady, Becky Ruppel; high man, Bill McLelland and Ken Crawford; low man, Gwen Fraser; Lucky tables Eva Harrison, Violet Smith, Alice Steverts, Jim Hart, Gwen Fraser, Dorothy Ham­ ilton, Keith Turnbull and Margaret Adams. Lucky chair winners were Violet Smith and Ross Stephenson. Hostesses were Helen Alexan­ der and Lou Raynard. The next euchre will be held by the Hall Board February 3. Helen and Stan Alexander and Lou and Cecil Raynard were Saturday night visitors with Cliff and Priscilla Bray at Wingham. Little Tommy Pearson had the misfortune to fall through a hole in his father’s barn. He was taken to Listowel Memorial Hospital then transferred to K-W Hospital in Kitchener. Some of the local fathers and sons attended a hockey game in Detroit with some Brussels fathers and sons. Many students of the area are busy with exams.
