BELGRAVE NEWS Mrs. Helen Stonehouse 887-9487 Knox Church reports good year for 1985 Morris man dies Following the morning service in Knox United Church, Belgrave lunch was served in the school room. The annual meeting followed with 36 members present. Rev. Roberts opened the meeting with prayer. Murray Scott read minutes of the last meeting. Lewis Stonehouse presented the financial statement and reported a good year with a balance on hand. Lewis Stonehouse and Rev. Ro­ berts thanked the members for theirsupportboth local and abroad for 1985. Over $2,000.00 was raised for Tornado Relief Fund and $7,500. for Missions. Elected to Session (to retire in 1988) were Clifford Coultes and Mrs. Laura Johnston; elected to Board of Stewarts (to retire in 1988) were Mike Cottrill and John Nixon and Trustee (to retire in 1987) was Ross Anderson Trustee to retire in 1990, Mrs. Robert Grasby. New ushers added were Chris Michie, Chris McIntosh, Corey McKee, Steven Coultes and Pat Cull. W iliam Coultes, Sunday School Supeiintendent reported another good year although enrolment was down in 1985. Sunday School activities include support of a foster chilG and missions through the White Cift Fund. Rev. Robe.ts thanked the Sun­ day School officers and teachers for their work. Rev. Roberts reported on the YouthGroup. It has an enthusiastic membership of 34young people who carry on various projects throughout the year. Four mem­ bers attended Toe Alpha: Donna Higgins, Greg Walton, Paul Coul­ tes and Robert Gordon. George Michie reported 111 families received the United Church Observer. Cost per family in 1986 will be $5.50. The Country Fayre will be held again this year on June 21. The target set for Mission and Service was set for approximately $8,000. Clifford Coultes presented the 1986 budget. J ack Taylor expressed thanks on behalf of the congregation to Rev. and Mrs. John Roberts for their excellent leadership during the past year. 9 tables at euchre Nine tables were inplayatthe weekly euchre which was held in the Women’s Institute Hall Wed­ nesday, January 22. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse; novelty lady, Mrs. Helen Martin; low lady, Mrs. Les Vincent; high man, John Currie; novelty man, Stanley Black; low man, Paul Good. There will be euchre next Wednesday starting at 8:00. Every one is welcome. JOHN WALTER [WAT] PEASE John Walter (Wat) Pease of Morris township died in Seaforth Community Hospital on January 22, 1986. He was 75 years of age. Mr. Pease was a familiar part of Brussels main street activity many years ago when he provided sawdust to food stores in town. He is survived by a sister, Irene Pease of Listowel and four broth­ ers, Bert of Mitchell and Allan, Bill and Lloyd of Morris township. Several nieces and nephews also survive. One brother Malcolm predeceased him. He was the son of the late Elijah Pease and Elizabeth Young. The funeral service took place on January 25 at 2 p.m. from the Brussels Chapel of the M. L. Watts Funeral Homes with Rev. Vic Jamieson incharge. Intermentwas in Blyth Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bert Elliott, Ronald Gordon, Elliott Somers, Sam Pletch, Lloyd Appleby and Carmen Craig. Belgrave people news Roger Bieman, Mrs. John Lep- pington of Clinton, Douglas Bie­ man of Kincardine and Mrs. Albert Bieman attended the funeral of Mrs. Bieman’s sister-in-law Mrs. Maletta McKelvie of Hanover at the Richardson Allard Funeral Home, Hanover on Friday, Janu­ ary 24. Four members of the Belgrave Youth Group who attended Toe Alpha in Toronto December 27 - 30 stayed at the Inn on the Park motel. Those who attended were Donna Higgins, Greg Walton, Paul Coul­ tes and Robert Gordon. SUNOCO Eachmembergave a report at their last Youth meeting. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cook were Mr. and Mrs. William Coultes, Andrea and Alison, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Matheson and Lisa of Molesworth, Ken Davis of RR 1, Wroxeter, Margaret Larkin, Waterloo, Brian Wightman of Auburn and Joanne Coultes of Victoria, B.C. Mrs. Dorothy Bolland and Lissa of Hensall visited last Tuesday with Mrs. Jim Lamont. Mrs. Edith Pidgeon had the misfortune of falling in her home and fracturing her ankle.
