On the other hand look at more locally basedfirms such as Bainton Limited or Atlas Fur Tanning and Dyeing or Howson and Howson Limited in Blyth. AU started small as somebody’s idea. All grew and provided jobs for the local com­ munity. All are rooted in their community and aren’t likely to move to Mississauga or whatever is the hot new location for industry at the moment. New companies are almost always short of cash. Whatthey need are small locations at low rental costs. One of the things we can provide are inexpensive real estate. We should be encouraging the bright young people with ideas to locate in our communities, even if they only employ one or three people to start. Only a few short years ago the Apple computer company was just twobright young men working in agarage. Today it’s a big part of California’s famous silicon Valley complex. On the retail side of things in particular, one of the greatest resources we have is the minds of the many women who have been home taking care of children and now are looking for something to do. If these women already have a primary source of income in the house, they can do imaginative things without having to worry about them supporting a family.
