WALTON
BY BOB MURPHY
A delegation from the Huron
Plowmen's Association appeared
before county council Jan. 2 to seek
its support in having the 1992
international plowing match held
here in Huron County.
Neil McGavin of Walton, provin-
cial director of the Ontario Plow-
man's Association and a member
of the Huron Association, asked
council at its regular session in the
court house at Goderich for
Division of
Gerbro Inc.
confirmation in writing of its
support to have the match held
here in 1992.
McGavin told council that even
though all of the figures were still
not in on the recent international
match in Elgin County, it is felt that
the match generated some
$500,000 to $1 million of revenue
for the county.
In addition, he said, a drop in
unemployment at that time was
also directly attributable to the

plowing match.
Attending the council meeting
with McGavin to present the
request were Ernie Talbot of
Stanley Township, Huron Plow-
man's Association president;
Peter Hallahan of Belgrave, the
association's first vice-president;
Graeme Craig of Walton, associa-
tion secretary-treasurer; and Lori
Consitt of Stanley Township, 1985
Queen of the Furrow.
