Locals attend funerals
The W.I. Canadian Industries
meeting was held January 8. The
meeting opened with the opening
Ode, Mary Stewart collect and 0
Canada.
President Helen Lawson wel-
comed all and read the poem
"Interlude". Minutes of the last
meeting were read by the secretary
treasurer, Alice Buchanan. Cor-
respondence included several
thank you's from June Fothergill,
Shirley Lyon, Elsie Shaddick for
Joe and Beryl Reid for her father
Geo. Carter, Harold and Annie
Cunningham, Ed and Betty Salver-
da, Guy Leiper, Laura Saunder-
cock, Don and Alice Buchanan, (for
his parents), Celia Sloman and
Harry and Jessie Tebbutt.
The financial report was given.
Roll call was on what effect
television commercials have on us.
Ten members, two visitors answer-
ed.
Welcoming worshipers on Sun-
day morning at Londesborough
United Church were Rev. Snihur
and Jim Jamieson. Ushers were
Lisa Bosman, Stephen Duizer,
Russell Nesbitt and David Whyte.
A sing time was enjoyed before
the service led by Rev. Snihur.
Among the announcements were:
Sunday January 19, there will be a
pot luck dinner and annual congre-
gational meeting after church;
January 26 is communion Sunday;
Thursday, Jan. 16 there will be a
youth meeting in the church and
The program included a film
showing women's work at arts and
crafts. The projector was run by
Doreen Radford. The mystery of
quilting was depicted with the
oldest quilt shown made in 1899. A
quilt was on display by Beth Knox.
Helen Lee had a book display of
quilt patterns. Marg Anderson
displayed her work on poppies
appliqued on a quilt.
Cards will be held every two
weeks: January 17, 31, Feb. 7 and
21. The group will feed the pork
producers on Jan. 15 and the Lions
on the 16th. The next meeting is
Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the home of
Helen Lawson. It was moved to
donate $500 to the Hall Board
Recreation Committee. The meet-
ing closed with the Queen and the
W.I. Grace. A lunch of quiche was
enjoyed, provided by Beth Knox,
Marg Anderson and Florence
Cartwright.

Children's time featured a song
"Jesus is a friend" and the story
"Muffiafinds a friend". Junior
teachers were Barbara, Theresea
and Melanie Knox. The anthem
was led by Lisa Duizer and pianist
and choir director Marsha Szusz.
The scripture reading was "Death
of Christ" and the lesson was
"Jesus, in the Temple." The
sermon was on Jesus growing up:
"The big gap".
Sympathy is extended to Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Cunningham on
the death of his sister Theresa
Elder, age 98 in London on January
5.
Attending the funeral on Jan. 10
of Mrs. Ross .(Jerry) Radford, age
63, at Port Colborne were her aunt,
Dora Shobbrook and cousins Thel-
ma Ellerby, Doris Andrews, Bill
and Verna Gibbings.
Russell Goodwas admitted to
Clinton Public Hospital by ambul-
ance on Monday, Jan. 6.
Mrs. Joe Shaddick and Miss
Edythe Lockhard visited on Sun-
day with Mr. and Mrs. John Shier
in Kincardine.
Happy 92nd birthday January 14
to Mr. Harold Cunningham.
A large number of cousins
attended the funeral Jan. 8 of Mr.
Ray Hunking in London.
The W.I. will hold cards Friday,
January 17 at 8 p.m. Ladies bring
lunch. All welcome.
Sympathy is extended to Buf-
finga families on the accidental
death of their mother, Jan. 9.
The Diamond Jubilee Commit-
tee of the Royal Canadian Legion
held a euchre party Jan. 11 which
was a great success.
Prizes were won by: Door prize,
Heather Fothergill; ladies high,
Vera Hesselwood; ladies low,
Thelma Deveau; men's high, Hank
Block; men's low, Jack Hessel-
wood; lone hands, Louis Phelan;

A senior citizens social after-
noon will be held at the Legion
Hall, Wednesday, January 22 at
1:30 p.m. All senior citizens are
welcome. Anyone requiring a ride

hold meeting

The Explorers meeting opened their favorite thing they received
by saying the Explorer purpose for Christmas. The story was called
