800 pack Blyth arena for hockey game
Nearly 800 people packed into
Blyth and District Community
Centre Saturday night to watch the
antics of a bunch of animals and
clowns dressed as the Blyth
Oldtimers and the CKNX Try-
hards.
Hockey took a backseat to fun
particularly in the third period and
sent the crowd home happy.
Several people has special reason
to be happy. A shootout was held
before the third period with seven
men trying to put the puck through
a small hole in a board in front of the
net. Dan Bailey of Blyth did it twice
to win a pair of tickets to a Toronto
Maple Leaf hockey game donated
by Canto!. Bill Howson, who
managed the feat once, got a
hockey stick signed by all members
of the Tryhards.
Other door prizes donated were:
six calendars, Radford Farm
Equipment; three hats, T.B. Allen
Ltd.; one hat, Allboro Elevators
Ltd.; two hats, Howson Mills; Oil,
Lube, Filter, Haugh Tire and
Muffler Supply; three cases Pepsi,
Scruton-Edward Fuels; four gall-
ons windshield washer, Paul Ker-
rigan (Petro-Canada); 17 toques,
Paul Kerrigan (Petro-Canada);
The Majestic Women's Institute
held a euchre party on January 7 in
the Brussels library. There were 11
tables of cards in play.
The high lady prize went to
Leona McDonald as did the
travelling lone hand prize. Albert
two hats, Craig Hardwoods Ltd.;
four hats, George Radford Con-
struction; twohats, Randy Bab-
cock; two hats, Mannings Building
Supplies Ltd.; one hat, Josling
Quipp was high man.
Winners of other draws were:
