THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8, 1986. From the Minister's Study Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking. BY REV. CHARLES CARPENTIER BRUSSELS, ETHEL UNITED CHURCHES Once upon a time there was a little girl who was told she could have one Christmas wish. So she wished that it could be Christmas Day every day of the year; and so it was! Can you imagine what happen- SUSAN ELIZABETH BRAY Susan Elizabeth Bray, formerly of St. Catharines, passed away Dec. 27, 1985 at Mapleton Manor Nursing Home, Listowel. She was Rev. Robin Lyons opened the service at St. John's Anglican church, Brussels on the day before Epiphany with the coming announcements. A vestry meeting will be held and a pot luck lunch will be provided after service on Jan. 19. Tobaggan party will be held Sunday, Jan. 12 with everyone to meet at 2 p.m. at the church. ed? Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall: day in and day out it was Christmas Day! There was no let-up. No end of turkey suppers with all the trimmings, the plum puddings and rum sauce, and all the gifts for which there was no storage could be found. It was an overflowing of far too many good things. By midsummereven the little girls was fed up with Christmas. 80 years of age. The former Susan Elizabeth Rolland, she was predeceased by her husband Elmer Cranston Bray in 1953. She is survived by three Anyone wishing to read the Lessons was asked to contact Rev. Lyons. The First Lesson was taken from Isaiah 16, V. 1-6, the Second Lesson Ephesians 3, V, 1-12. The Gospel was read from Matthew 2, V. 1-12. The Sermon was from the words "Arise and Shine, for our light has come, explaining the Light of Christ Shines on us." Everyone was glad when the next "REAL" Christmas Day was followed at last by a plain ordinary Boxing Day. I wonder if there is anyone who wishes it could be New Year's Day every single day? Your immediate reaction is going to be that no one could possibly want that. But stop for a minute and think how many New Year's Days actually happen in the course of a solar year. children: Clarence, of Oshawa; Harvey of St. Catharines and Greta Hillman of Hamilton. One brother, Ralph Rolland of Brussels and a sister Blanche, Mrs. Cliff Hoegy of Walton, also survive her as do seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth (Smith) Rolland and by two sisters, Roxy, (Mrs. Mel Jacklin) and Glady Brewer and by three brothers, Clifford, Bill and George. The funeral took place from the Brussels Chapel of the M. L. Watts Funeral Home on Dec. 30. 1985 with Rev. Charles Carpentier officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel. The first Sunday in Advent is the opening of the Christian year. The Jewish New Year is in late September. Canada has its birth- day on July 1. The boys and girls from the Federal and Ontario Income Tax, start with a new year on March 11 And everybody knows that life begins again the day after Labour Day, or thereabouts, for the schools. We could easily find ourselves celebrating not only New Year, but also New Month (like the Jews of old), and even New Day Morning. New Day Morning. Now there's a thought. Making a new start each day. It is in that context that I would set the words of Jesus in St. Luke 11:09 "Keep on asking...Keep on seeking Keep on knocking" every day; that is every New Day Morning 365 days a year. Here is a word of our Lord that summons us to activity. To be active in prayer. Daily prayer. Prayer every New Day Morning. "Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; Knock, and it will be opened to you." God himself is the prize for one who believes this, and prays by it. So ask, seek, knock. You will receive you will find you will have openings. St. John's plans vestry meeting Susan Bray buried at Ethel Blyth Christian Reformed Church HIGHWAY4,BLYTH Rev.
