Christmas Day guests with Viola

Mrs. Isabelle Shortreed visited
over Christmas her daughter
Louise and Bill Smith and other
relatives in Mitchell returning
home on Boxing Day.
Mrs. Margaret Michelle of
Stouffville visited over New Year's
with Mrs. Ruth Thamer. They were
dinner guests of Evelyn, Mrs. Holt
at Jamestown. On Thursday they
visited Mr. and Mrs. Allan Camp-
bell, Winthrop and Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Henderson at Seaforth.
Mrs. Bev Stevenson, Ron and
Chris spent Christmas Day with
Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Stevenson and
other members of the family.
Mr. Ross Leeming of Seaforth
and other members of his family
were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Steele on Christmas Day.
Mr. and Mrs. Rolly Achilles had
26 members of their family at their
homefortheirdinner on Boxing
Day.
Jason Thamer of Wheatley
visited with Steve Noble, Jr.
during the holiday season.
Mrs. Viola Kirkby spent Christ-
mas with Mr. and Mrs. Doug
Kirkby and Paul.
On Boxing Day Viola had her
family home including Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Machan, Toronto and
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Machan and
family of Goderich.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall were
supper guests with Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Snell and Harris, Londes-
boro on Christmas Day.

over Christmas were Mr. and Mrs.
Fraud
charges
dismissed
A charge of fraud against Alvin
George Baker of Bluevale was
dismissed at a session of Provincial
Court in Listowel Dec. 18.
Mr. Baker was arraigned Sept.
11 and a preliminary hearing
commenced. At the request of Mr.
Baker's lawyer, there was a ban on
publication or broadcasting of
proceedings during the hearing.
Mr. Baker was charged with
defrauding the J. H. Keeso and
Sons Lumber Company, Wallace
Township, by misrepresenting the
purchase price of logs.
Crown Attorney Douglas Page
said he would not be offering
further evidence.
"The feeling here is that this is a
civil matter," he said.

London; Mr. and Mrs. George
Kruse, Bayfield; Mr. and Mrs.
Stan Stroope and family, Ford-
wich.
Mr. and Mrs. John A. Perrie,
Cranbrook and Will Perrie, Halifax
were Christmas guests with Mr.
and Mrs. David Perrie.
Twenty-two members of the
Thamer families met on Christmas
Day at the home of John and Kim
Thamer of Kitchener.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Huether and.
family were guests on Christmas
Day with Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Holmes and family of Clinton.
Boxing Day dinner guests with
Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall were
Barry Currie, Brussels and Bev
Stevenson, Ron and Chris of
Walton.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Humphries
had their family home to celebrate
their Christmas on Boxing Day.
Andy Smith of Milton spent a
couple of days last week of the
holidays with his cousin Chris
Stevenson. They returned to their
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart
Stevenson where Chris stayed
until Sunday.
Christmas guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Nelson Reid were Mr. and
Mrs. Lawrence Ryan and Mr. and
Mrs. Campbell Wey.
Relatives of Bonnie Lamble
spent over Christmas with her and
the girls at the Manse, attending
the candlelight service at the
church Christmas Eve.
Vance Stevenson of Toronto
spent last Monday with his cousin
Ron Stevenson. Fred, Kay, Dana
and Judd came that evening. They
visited for an hour on their way to
Sanderson's at Wroxeter.
Christmas guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Allan Searle were Gail Searle,
Brampton; Earl and Mary Penn-
ington and Jason of Goderich.
Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Mitchell
spent New Year's at the home of
Luella Mitchell, Brussels.
Sunday noon luncheon guests
with Ruth Thamer were Allan and
Betty McCall; Bev Stevenson, Ron
and Chris.
The U.C.W. held its first
meeting of the New Year at the
church, Thursday afternoon Jan. 2
with 15 ladies present.
Walton I unit was in charge of
devotions opening hymn, "Stand-
ing at the Portal". Pianist was
Edith Wey. Marie Coutts read a
poem followed by scripture read-
ing from Romans Chapter 5: 1-5.
Meditation was, "Leave some
things behind."
The topic on communications
was given by Edith Wey, stressing
why we read the Bible. We should
understand the Bible; it is the
nourishment of the Christian
Faith. It is the most important book
to read. Marjory Fraser gave a
summary of the books of the Bible.
All the books number 27. Edith
closed with prayer.
Business was conducted by the
new U.C.W. President Marion
Godkin who expressed a few
thoughts for the New Year.
Marilyn McDonald read minutes.
Anyone saving used stamps is to
leave them in abox at the church. It
was reported 73 families will
receive the Observer this year.
Leona McDonald gave the finan-
cial report. The membership fee
was voted to be the same as last
year to be taken in at the unit
meeting this month.

holds supper
Walton II unit, U.C.W. mem-
bers had a potluck supper at the
home of Barb Fritz for their
December meeting. Pearl McCall-
um and Margaret Bennett were in
charge of the supper and the
devotions all relating to the
Christmas theme.
Marilyn McDonald conducted
the business and gave out an-
nouncements. Cleaning the church
lists were given out. It was moved
to donate $20 to the Nursing Home
in Brussels. Santa arrived and
distributed gifts to everyone.

meeting will be held Sunday
evening January 19 beginning with
a pot luck supper at 6 p.m.
