victory. Greg Mulvey scored Brus-
sels' only goal.
The Bantams were in Clinton for
their only game of the week on
Saturday. Barry Blake and Jona-
thon VaKeulen scored for Brussels
with assists going to Brian Alcock,
Ken Jamieson and Rodney Nichol-
son and Jeff Earl.
Barry Blake scored the hat-trick
in the second period with Bruce
Johnston getting a single. Assists
went to R. Nicholson, Jeff Earl and
Brian Alcock with two each.
Clinton scored one goal.
Brussels was scoreless in the
third period while Clinton added
two goals. Brussels came home
with a 6 - 3 win.
The Sprouts played two games in
the last little while. They were in
Moncton for a Saturday morning
game last week where they picked
up a 9 - 1 victory. Tom Pearson led
the way scoring four goals. Shane
Wilson followed with three while
Brett Fischer and Chad McCallum
each had a single goal.
They travelled to Lucknow Sa-
turday, Jan. 4 to play hockey but
weren't quite so lucky. They were
defeated by a 5 - 0 score. I
understand Josh and Scott should
have got credit for one of those
goals. Those kind of things happen
even to the big guys.
up the pace to score twice assisted
by Dean Lawrie and Jim English.
The Harriston club returned with
one goal.
There was no scoring in the
second period as the action slowed
once again. Then in the third
period, Brussels sparked to life
scoring four times to defeat
Harriston by a score of 6 to 1. Goals
by Dean Wheeler assisted by Sean
Kieffer; Dean Lawrie, assisted by
Shawn Bremner and Ron Chamb-
ers; Dean Lawrie assisted by Marty
Rutledge and Shawn Bremner; and
Shawn Bremner assisted by Sean
Kieffer.
Now Brussels was on the "A"
side of the tournament and would
meet some stiff competition. Brus-
sels came up against the strong
Teeswater team, that has been
giving Brussels a hard time all
season, in what was probably the
best game of the tournament.
Both teams came out flying with
hard-hitting, end-to-end action.
Each team pounded the other with
Brussels goalie Steve Coultes
stopping shot after shot. Sean
Kieffer scored first for Brussels
agsistedby Marty Rutledge and
Dean Wheeler.
In the second period Brussels
proved they were the stronger
team again with Shawn Bremner
scoring twice assisted by Dean
Wheeler, Sean Kieffer and Brett
Garniss.
Brussels shut Teeswater down
again in the third with a goal from
Dean Wheeler assisted by Sean
Kieffer and Shawn Bremner. Steve
Coultes remained strong in net to
shut out Teeswater 4 - 0 and
eliminate them from the tourna-
ment.
The Brussels team had made it to
the championship game and their
opponent was Lucknow, another
strong, hard hitting club. Both
teams hit the ice ready for action.
Lucknow scored in the first minute
of the first period and held the lead
until Marty Rutledge hit the net for
Brussels in the second period,
unassisted. Lucknow came back
with two more goals and Brussels
responded with one by Dean
Wheeler assisted by Marty Rut-
ledge.
In the third period the teams
started to tire but the scoring
continued with Marty Rutledge
scoring assisted by Jim English
and Brett Garniss. Then Lucknow
scored and Brussels returned once
more with Dean Wheeler's un-
assisted goal. The period ended
with goalie Steve Coultes, keeping
Brussels in the game, making a
glove save as the buzzer sounded to
end regulation time.
With the score tied at 4 - 4 it was
time for sudden death over time.
Now the Brussels club started to
rake on the coal. Both teams were
tired but Brussels just kept on
skating. For the entire period
Brussels pounded away at the
Lucknow goalie but to no avail.
The overtime period dragged
onto midnight and the score
remained tied with the players
exhausted.
The organizers decided on a
shoot out to end the game and
decide the champion. Three play-
ers off each team would get one
shot at the goalie to try to score.
The team that scored more goals
would win.

Lucknow scored once and Brus-
sels did not. A very disappointed
Brussels team left the ice. It was a
hard way to lose a tournament after
getting so close to victory.
In other action the Brussels
Midgets went to Mildmay Thurs-
day night for a pitiful game that
was marred with Brussels receiv-
ing 47 minutes in penalties.
Brussels managed to ride the game
out to a 1 - 1 tie with a goal by Sean
Kieffer, assisted by Paul Coultes.
