Callender news
Residents have a busy,
happy Christmas
The Gerald Exel family had their Christmas Dinner in the upstairs
hall of the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre on Saturday,
December 21. Forty-seven people attended coming from Listowel,
Owen Sound, Tiverton and as far as Ottawa, representing four
generations of the Exel family.

A surprise visitor for Barbara Brown just before Christmas was her
son-in-law Brett Smith from Halifax, married to Allison Brown.
Another daughter, Christine (Brown) Botosan, has been notified that
she has passed her C.A. exams. She is articling with an accounting
firm in Kitchener.

Darlene Bishop, the daughter of
Clarence and Rose Marie Bishop,
graduated recently with honours
from the Executive Secretarial
Course at Iougheed Business
College, Kitchener. Darlene is
presently employed at the Pruden-
tial Insurance Company of Amer-
ica in Kitchener.

has active sales
for Dec. 21 sale
The market at Brussels Stock-
yards traded actively on a good
demand on all finished cattle
December 21. Cows and feeder
pigs sold higher. There were 926
cattle and 766 pigs on offer.
Choice Steers sold from $85. to
$90. with a sale to $95. Good Steers
were $82. to $85.
A steer consigned by Karl
Michiels of RR 1, Sebringville
weighing 1190 lbs. topped the
market at $95. with his offering of
35 steers averaging 1224 lbs.
selling for an overall price of $88.
Forty-two steers consigned by
Maple Emblem Farms of RR 1,
Dungannon averaging 1250 lbs.
sold for an overall price of $88.28
with a sale to $92. Four steers
consigned by J. P. Connell and
Sons of RR 3, palmerston averag-
ing 1210 lbs. sold for an overall
price of $88.96 with a sale at
$91.75.
Twenty-two steers consigned by
Murray Wagg of RR 5, Mitchell
averaging 1213 lbs. sold for an
overall price of $87.82. Fifty-three
heavy steers consigned by Hod-
gins Bros. of RR 8, Parkhill
averaging 1370 lbs. sold for an
overall price of $87.09 with sales to
$89.50. Ten steers consigned by K.
& L. Beef Farms of RR 1, Ethel
averaging 1215 lbs. sold for an
overall price of $87.38 with a sale to
$89.75.
Thirty-six steers consigned by
Ken Dalton of RR 1, Walton
averaging 1140 lbs. sold for an
overall price of $87.23 with a sale to
$90. Nine steers consigned by Jim
Hayden of RR 6, Goderich averag-
ing 1173 lbs. sold for $87.70 with
his lot of 13 steers averagingi236
lbs. selling for an overall price of
$86.82. Eight steers consigned by
Howard Martin of Brussels aver-
aging 1195 lbs. sold for $87.60 with
his lot of 15 steers averaging 1237
lbs. selling for $86.65.
Choice Exotic Heifers sold from
$84 to $89 with sales to $95. Choice
White-Faced Heifers were $80 to
$84.
A heifer consigned by Donald
Ross of RR 1, Holstein weighing
970 lbs. topped the market at $95
with his lot of 1 I heiefers averaging
1112 lbs. selling for $86.75.
Twenty-two heifers consigned by
Harold Bell of RR 1, Wroxeter,
averaging 1169 lbs. sold for an
overall price of $86.68. A heifer
consigned by Doug McPherson of
Teeswater weighing 1080 lbs. sold

About 400 neighbours, friends
and relatives gathered at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Com-
munity centre on Dec. 14 to honour
Jack and Jean Conley on their 50th
wedding anniversary.
Joe Tiffin's orchestra provided
the music for dancing. Tracy Clark
sang the anniversary waltz Tenni-
fer and Jolanda Vanass performed
a stepdance number. The neigh-
bours and friends presented Jack
and Jean with a money-tree as well
as many beautiful gifts.
Friends and relatives attended
from Toronto, Kitchener, Water-
loo, Mildmay, Listowel and Ethel.
Dwayne Evans was the leader
for the Christmas Service at Knox
Prebyterian Church on December
22 in which all members of the
Sunday School and Choir took part.
Rev. Don McInnis made the
announcements, lit the Advent
candles and spoke briefly. Patsy
Dickinson contributed a beautiful
solo "0 Holy Night".
The Sunday School and young
people were out carol singing on
Saturday evening, Dec. 21. On
Monday evening a group from the
Mennonite Church were around
singing carols and songs.
Some of our tcsidents were
surprised to see Santa Claus
walking around on Saturday after-
noon, Dec. 21. They were worried
that he had his dates mixed up. He
made several calls on his way.

Residents of the Callander
Nursing Home have had a blessed
Christmas season. The home has
been filled with love and caring
people. Rev. Lyons and his con-
gregation from the Anglican
Church; Doug and Evelyn Purdy
from the Salvation Army; Brussels
Zion, and Ethel Mennonite
Churches and Father Stan from
Wingham have visited residents.
Eighty children from the East
Wawanosh Public School sang
carols. There was a junior and
senior choir from the Brussels
Public School. A staff and resident
party was held where names were
drawn and each staff member gave
a gift to one of the residents. The
staff members supplied the good-
ies.
Jeannette Boynton led the dis-
cussion group once again.
Everyone was saddened by the
death of one of our ladies Mrs.
Murra Grant. Sympathy goes to
her husband who is a resident in
this home also.
Monday, December 22 residents
went on a bus tour around Brussels
to see the Christmas lights. The
Leo Club sang carols after and
everyone enjoyed pumpkin tarts
which the residents had made.
Christmas Eve Bob and Donna
Lowes and family and Bev Cardiff
held a beautiful candle light
service.
Christmas Day Adeline Smith,
Howard Clark, Maggie Griffith,
Eva and Oliver Stewart, Marion
Letherland, Margaret McBrine,
Ethel Fischer, Bessie McCut-
cheon, Millie MacFarlane, Elsie
Shaw and Dorothy Higgins spent
the day with their families as well
as having Christmas dinner in the
home. Helen and JoePoirier, Mary
Clark, Della Shaw, Mona and Mary
Hamilton, Pal Somers, Ella and
Carman Gwinn, and Louise Hislop
had Christmas dinner in the home
with their dear ones.
Baby Thomas Baker was the
winner of a candle centre piece on
the Christmas Wishes Draw.
Dorothy Higgins spent Boxing
day at her nephew's Don Pletch at
Ilderton.
A hearty welcome to Mrs. Pearl
Stevenson.

Mrs, Gordon-Engel had all her
family home for their Christmas on
the Dec. 21 weekend. Eating
Christmas dinner were Sharon,
Tracy, Susan and Kamile Abado,
London; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Bur-
dett, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Engel,
Kitchener; Bill Nester, Stratford
and Mrs. Mac Engel:
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conley spent
Christmas with Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey Clark and family.
Spending Christmas with Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Knight were: Mr.
and Mrs. Warren Knight and boys,
Belgrave; Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Walker and boys, Brussels; Mr.
and Mrs. Bruce Knight, Toronto;
and Mary Ellen, Brighton. Also
visiting on Christmas evening
were Mr. and Mrs. Murray
Bremner, Kitchener.
Mary Ellen left on Thursday
morning for Toronto where she
boarded a plane for Panama City,
Florida. She will spend a week
there with her grandmother, Mrs.
Ella Knight.
Family members of Mr. and
Mrs. Ross Engelwho were were
home for Christmas included: Mr.
and Mrs. Campbell Grant and
family, Mr. and Mrs. John Voll and
family, all of Listowel; Mrs. Gayle
