PAGE 3. $40,000 loss in farm fire BLYTH NEWS Damage was estimated at more than $40,000 by Blyth Fire Chief Irvine Bowes in afire on the farm of Ray Rammeloo on the 6th conces- sion of Morris township on Tues- day of last week. Firemen were called to the fire at 7:40 a.m. to find an implement shed burning beyond control. The shed was being used to store extra hay and straw but also housed two tractors. The Rammeloos had earlier used one of the tractors to a snowblower to blow out the lane and put it back in the shed. Firemen were unable to determine a cause but suspect either the tractor gave off a spark and set the straw and hay on fire or the tractor went on fire itself. About 3,000 bales of hay and straw, as well as the equipment and the shed itself were lost. Blyth firemen were on the scene for nearly three hours protecting nearby buildings from sparks. A tanker from the Wingham Fire Department was also at the scene. The trailer swung into the westbound lane where it was in collision with Mr. Tebbutt's car which was west- bound toward Auburn. The Tebbutt car was demolished and the truck then went off the south side of the road, down an embankment and into a field. Mr. Tebbutt was only slightly injured. There was $2500 damage to his car. The truck suffered $30,000 damage. Traffic late Tuesday afternoon was tied up for some time while crews worked to remove the truck from its place in a field. Phone busy at Christmas time The heavy volume Yuletide season long distance calling to relatives and friends will peak on Christmas Day. Upwards of six million toll calls will be placed across Canada, with more than one million of them placed in Ontario. The vast majority will be dialed direct by customers because this is the fastest and cheapest way to call long distance. But operators will also be very busy. In Southwestern Ontario, some 129 operators will be on duty over the 24 hours on Christmas day, said Peter Croome, local Bell Canada manager. ar Merni Christm d Ste tbe Council an of SHE 1111 and OF BO 11-1 01 • NOTICE Residents of Blyth GARBAGE PICKUP Friday, December 27, 1985 Regular pickup Thursday, January 2, 1986 Village of Blyth, Reeve Albert Wasson
