Christmas meeting held Twenty ladies attended the Christmas meeting of the U.C.W. of Duff's United Church on Wednesday evening, December 4. The basement was decorated in the Christmas Theme with tables set with green and red for the pot luck supper that preceded the general meeting. Bonnie Lamble said Grace. Edith Wey made a cake for Annie Reid, a candle was lit and "Happy Birthday" was sung to Annie to celebrate her birthday of Dec. 2. Walton 2 unit was in charge of devotions. Marilyn McDonald opened with a Christmas message. Christmas hymns were sung with Marie McGavin the pianist. Karen Hoegy and Pearl McCallum read scriptures followed with prayer. Several numbers of special Christmas music was supplied by Gloria Wilbee. Margery Ritchie read a poem, "He was one of us". Helen Craig assisted Marilyn McDonald in a reading, "What is Christmas?" Helen Williamson and Margaret Craig also took part, each one opening a gift, referring that we should be good stewards for the gifts we receive. The Lamble girls, Liz, Barb and Sarah sang accompanied by their mother, Bonnie at the piano. The offering was received and dedicat- ed. A Classic Christmas Story was well presented by Marilyn McDon- ald. Viola Kirkby led in a short inspiration service for the out going officers and incoming offi- cers, each lighting a candle. Several Carols were sung, clos- ing this part of the meeting with the Benediction. Helen Craig presided for the business, opening with a reading, "We long for someone to come." Minutes of an executive meeting in November was read by Marilyn McDonald. Leona McDonald gave the treasurer's report. A new cleaning list is to be made up by the new unit leaders. Heather McGavin and Donna Godkin will attend Toc Alpha in Toronto. Many upcoming dates were announced. The Candlelight ser- vice is to be held Christmas Eve. The general meeting for the New Year to be the following week, January 7 at 1:30 p.m. January 27 is the Presbyterial meeting in Exeter. Marion Godkin reported on the budget meeting, the figures sug- gested for the 1986. U.C.W. Edith Wey read aletter from Seeds for Zaire. Helen Craig thanked all for their support and help through the very busy year. She then called on Marion Gookin who expressed her thanks to Helen for her leadership for the past two years. As the new President Marion closed the meet- ing with Prayer. U.C.W. Communications co- ordinators are Mrs. Edith Wey, and Mrs. Marjory Fraser; Ste- wardship and Finance, Mrs. Olene Dennis, Mrs. Doreen Hackwell, Mrs. Leona McDonald; leadership and development, Mrs. Marie McGavin and the second unit leaders; Church in Society, Mrs. Maxine Marks, Mrs. Marie Coutts, Mrs. Audrey Hackwell; Christian Development and World Outreach, Mrs. Melva Fraser, Mrs. Dianne McCallum, Mrs. Betty McCall, Mrs. Mary Humph- ries; Archives, Mrs. Edith Wey. Communion preparations will be looked after by Mrs. Viola Traviss, Mrs. Mary Humphries. New principal at school Mr. Al Sygrove from Brookside Public School has been named vice-principal of Walton Public School starting January 6, 1986. He replaces Rob Snell, who moves to Seaforth as vice-principal-Jean Turner will move to Huron Centen- nial as Vice-principal. Gary Jewitt is principal of both Seaforth and Walton Public Schools. Walton I unit Christmas meeting was held in the basement of Duff's United Church, Wednesday even- ing Dec. 11 when 33 ladies sat down to tables decorated in the Christ- mas Theme. The meeting followed the pot luck supper. Marion Godkin gave the Call to Worship. Carol, "An- gels from the realms of Glory" was sung with Doreen Hackwell as The annual meeting of the Walton Area Sports Club was held in the Walton Library Monday evening Dec. 9. Judy Lee was chairman. Secretary was Carol Humphrie§ and treasurer, Karen Hoegy. The committee elected for the new year are the executive consist- ing of: president, Judy Lee; vince president, Dave Gamble; secre- pianist. Gloria Love gave a read- ing, "Christmas Is". Marion followed with "Keep thin lovely day." Marjory Humphries told the Christmas Story interspersed with singing of Christmas Carols. Glor- ia Love conducted a Christmas contest. Doreen Hackwell closed this part with a Christmas paryer. Marie Coutts chaired the short p.m.;4-H leaders are to be guests along with a gift exchange on Wedensday evening Dec. 18. Mr. and Mrs. Ken MacDonald; Mr. and Mrs. Graeme MacDonald and family and Miss Mary Mac- Donald of Toronto had their pre-Christmas dinner Saturday evening with Wilfred Shortreed and Margaret. Mary is remaining at the Shortreed home over the tary, Marg Taylor; treasurer, Karen Hoegy. New members are: Cathy Kuntz; Bev Stevenson and Dave Gamble. Retired officers were Steve Noble Sr., Jo-anne McDon- ald and. Carol Humphries. The winner in the monthly draw for the Walton Area Sports Club was Jean Simpson, $100 and Edna Hotson, Mitchell, $25. business period with plans made for the January meeting. Boxes for shut-ins are to be packed on Thursday. Doreen Hackwell gave the year's treasurer's report. Viola Traviss presented Laura Murray with a gift from the unit as she has moved to Seaforth. Alice Searle and Berva Watson were in charge of the gift ex- change. About Walton people Sunday supper guests with Isabelle Shortreed were Bill and Louise Smith, Mitchell; Jack War- wick, Brussels; Ken and Judy Shortreed and family. Torrance Dundas returned to his home on Friday from Seaforth Hospital. His friends hope he is much improved. Walton Women's Institute was reminded to bring a guest to the Christmas Supper meeting at 6:30 holiday season.
