School board won't look at school closings
Elementary and seconchay
schools in Huron County will not
come under the close scrutiny of an
accommodation review this year,
the county board of education
decided at its November meeting.
The last schools in Huron to
undergo such a review are the
Vanastra Public School, Hensall
Public School and J. A. D.
Sunday the weekly church ser-
vice was held at Callander Nursing
Home with Rev. Jamieson from the
Brussels Presbyterian Church.
Rev. Jamieson gave communion
to residents.
Monday residents played bingo
in the afternoon and Debbie
Trollope, Iona Moore and Frank
Dunn continued decorating the
home for Christmas. In the evening
Doug and Evelyn Purdy from the
Salvation Army visited.
Tuesday euchre was played.
The Majestic Women's Institute
of Brussels held their December
meeting in the library on Thursday
at noon beginning with a sump-
tuous potluck dinner.
The Branch Directors, Kathleen
Semple and Marie McCutcheon
were in charge of the meeting.
There were 21 members and five
visitors present. The president,
Peggy Cudmore, opened the meet-
ing. A gift exchange was held
which was looked after by Isabel
Adams and Bernice MacFarlane.
Iona Moore and Eleanor Hem-
ingway were asked to look after
getting a W.I. sign made for the
Institute shelves in the library. The
next euchre party is to be held on
Tuesday, January 7 with Evelyn
Mair, Bernice MacFarlane, Doris
McCall and Alice McArter being
the committee in charge.
McCurdy„ Public School in Huron
Park, and the board has made a
commitment to keep all three
schocls open.
This year only Central Huron
Secondary School in Clinton was
added to the list of schools which
are under their minimum effective
enrollment. F. E. Madill Second-
Maggie Griffith spent the after-
noon with her niece Elizabeth
McKercher at Jamestown. It was
tree trimming time at the home on
Wednesday evening. Betty Camp-
bell played the piano and Linda
Shaw led the sing song while
residents took part decorating the
Christmas tree. Little helpers were
Jonathon Trollope and Curtis and -
Philip Graber. After lunch was
served, monthly birthday gifts
were given to Bessie McCutcheon,
Jack Cathers and Eva Stewart.
The roll call, being donations for
the shut-in boxes, was well
responded to and arrangements
were made for packing the boxes
and sending Christmas cards.
Peggy Cudmore, Kathy Bridge,
Jane Devries and Ida Evans; are on
the committee to pack the boxes.
Alice Brothers and Frieda Pipe
entertained everyone with their
lively duets. Marie McCut-
cheon gave very appropriate
Christmas readings followed by
Margaret McLeod's beautiful
solos, "0 Holy Night" and Christ-
mas Lullaby". Margaret McLeod
also led a sing song of Christmas
carols accompanied by Alice Bro-
thers at the piano.

the meeting closed by singing God

the afternoon.
Saturday Bill Close attended the
50th Wedding Anniversary party
of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conely at the
Brussels Arena. David Hastings
and Mike McPherson supplied his
transportation in the Hastings van.
Everyone is urged to come and join
residents in their festivities. Some-
thing is planned for everyday until
Christmas.
