Something happened in the third period as Brussels seemed to fade away. Belmont scored three straight unanswered goals to take a commanding lead before Rob Cardiff assisted by Mike Vincent added a Brussels goal in the dying seconds of the period on a relaxed Belmont goalie. Brussels seemed to be short of leg power in the third period and those legs that were used, were well worn out. Final score was Belmont 5, Brussels 3. Brussels will be at home for a mid-week game Wednesday night at 8:45 against Clinton. Friday night will find them travelling to Tavistock for an 8:30 start and at home on Sunday to Thamesford for a 2 p.m. game. STANDINGS AS OF FRIDAY, DEC. 6 SOUTH DIVISION Pts. Lucan 32 Mt. Troy Smith wasre-injured in the first five minutes of a very rugged hockey game. A very wide open first period of hockey followed. Time Fritz assisted by Murray Dewar opened the scoring for Brussels, but Thedford came back to tie the score shortly after. Murray Dewar assisted by Rollie Smith and Dave Schmidt added goal number two with Kevin McArter assisted by Marty Rut- ledge and Schmidt getting the third. Kevin Ruttan assisted by R. Smith and Dewar found the spot for goal number five unassisted. Thedford added their second goal of the period before Dewar assisted by Fritz and Ruttan scored to end the period at 6 - 2. Tim Fritz assisted by Dewar and R. Smith got the only goal of the second period. The third period had Dewar, Fritz and Schmidt combining for the first goal of the period while Kevin McArter unassisted added the ninth Brussels goal of the game. Thedford added one more before the game was over for the 9 - 3 loss. The hot glove of Mike Smith kept Thedford off the scoreboard in a game which saw them using their bodies in a very rough game of hockey. We were fortunate in having to pick up only one player at the Exeter hospital on the way home. Troy sustained a severely bruised shoulder after being kneed into the board by an opposing player. The Bull's were at home to the Belmont Bombers on Sunday afternoon where two excellent periods of hockey were played. Belmont scored a quick goal to take an early lead in the game. They added one more to make it 2 - 0 at the end of the first period. The period was interrupted for a short time when a Belmont man who was looking after the players door jerked his head back to miss the stick of an incoming hockey player and struck his head on the steel girder. He was removed to hospital by ambulance. It is to be hoped he had nothing more severe than a bad headache. Things settled down in the second period with Brussels taking its turn at scoring and keeping the visitors off the scoreboard.
