Accounting is the art of measuring business
activities.
In this dayand age, no business can get along without
keeping some sort of accounting records. The
businessman himself, his associates, insurance
agents, bankers, prospective creditors and purchas-

and will be going.
2. Taxes
Nobody likes them, yet they seem to affect
everybody's lives.
No major business decision can be made without
considering its potential tax effect.
With the complexity of the tax laws, are you prepared
to "face the government" alone?
3. Business Consulting
Running a successful business requires much more
than knowledge of accounting and taxes. First and
foremost your practical knowledge of your particular
business is required. However, there will be
instances where you would wish to draw on the
expertise of professional business consultants with
their specialized knowledge and resources.

Hog farmers'
ideas wanted
The Ontario Pork Congress
holds a contest for innovative ideas
in pork production and, says Sam
Bradshaw, engineering technicial
for the Ontario Ministry of Agricul-
ture and Food in Clinton, the ideas
of one pork producer can help
others.
"I have occasion to visit many
farms during my work year," Mr.
Bradshaw said, "and on each farm
I notice new ideas that farmers
have come up with to make their job
a little easier or a little more
profitable. Many of these pork
producers do not realize the
immense benefits that other pro-
ducers would derive from their
ideas."
The Pork Congress has prizes for
the best ideas in three categories:
Class 1 - barn design, renovation,
etc.; class 2 - equipment and
gadgets; class 3 - management
ideas. Prizes are $250 for class 1,
$150 for class 2 and $100 for class 3.
Entries should be sent to the
Ontario Pork Congress, P.O. Box
61, Stratford, Ont. or producers
should contact Sam Bradshaw,
OMAF, Box 159, Clinton.
