Hullett
supports
aid to fire
brigades
Hullett township council is in
agreement with a resolution from
the village of Omemee which
requested extra government fund-
ing for volunteer fire departments.
The resolution stated that volun-
teer fire departments providing
health services such as CPR, first
aid, auto'extrication and traffic
control are a heavy financial
burden on the taxpayer should be
funded by the province,
According to clerk Harry Lear,
Hullett Township is provided with
fire protection by the Blyth,
Seaforth and Clinton Fire Depart-
ents, all of which have one or more
of these extra services.
The resolution further urges the
municipalities to petition the Mini-
stry of Health for the additional
funding and write to local MPP's
with their concerns.
In other business, the clerk was
instructed to prepare a bylaw
concerning a three-year operating
agreement for the Seaforth Com-
munity Centre with four other
townships. Clerk Lear says Hullett
pays a small percentage of the
operating costs of the centre.
A tile drain loan application was
approved for Dejong Farms sub-
ject to township bylaw and avail-
ability of funds.
Council also opened, and after
three readings, closed the court of
revision regarding the Ball Drain-
age Works. The court of revision
gives those affected by the assess-
ment of the Ball Drain time to
appeal the assessment, said Clerk
Lear. There were no appeals.
A bylaw to provide $22,500 for
drainage works in the township
borrowed on the credit of the
municipality was passed by coun-
cil.
Appointment
questioned
through new
county policy
BY BOB MURPHY
Although the Huron County
Library has appointed Janis Bis-
back of Hensall, as its representa-
tive to the Ontario Library Services
Center Board, on Thursday, coun-
ty council placed a strong rider on
that appointment.
News of the board's appoint-
ment of Bisback came during
presentation of the library board
report to council. The appointment
would be for a three-year term, the
report said.
Coun. Tom Cunningham (Hul-
lett reeve) questioned how the
county's library board could make
such an appointment when it was
not certain that "Ms. Bisback will
be re-appointed to the board by the
next council."
County council earlier had re-
solved to not re-appoint the
existing library board without first
advertising for volunteers.
The board had recommended
there be no changes.
Warden Paul Steckle confirmed
that Bisback's appointment as the
board's representative to the
provincial body "is subject to the
approval of the new striking
committee."
If Bisback is not re-appointed by
that committee, he said, "then she
will not be able to fulfill that
commitment and the board will
have to make another appoint-
ment."
The 1985 Huron County Library
Board appointed members were
Bisback, R. P. Ritter and Martina
Schneiker.
