United
plans potluck
The greeters on Sunday morning
at the Londesborough United
Church were Rev. Snihur and
Marlene Armstrong. The ushers
were John Hoggart, Ken Arm-
strong, Elgin and Dennis Pen-
found.
Rev. Snihur led the Call to
Worship and announced aftger
church that next Sunday there will
be an annual pot luck dinner
followed by games and a good time
with a special visitor for children.
In the evening, there will be an area
community service in Blyth Mem-
orial Hall with carol singing at 7:20
led by Rev. Snihur's service at
7:30.
The second advent candle was lit
by Ed, Mary and Tracy Salverda.
The children's time was led by Rev.
Snihur and children collected the
ornaments for the tree and the
choir decorated the tree with them.
The Junior teacher was Edith
Taylor. A carol sing was held with
your favourite carol. The sermon
was "He shall be called Eman-
uel."

Christmas
meeting

The Christmas meeting of the
W.M.S. of Knox Presbyterian
Church, Cranbrook, was held on
Wednesday, December 4, beginn-
ing with a potluck dinner at the
home of Mrs. Stuart Stevenson.
Following the delicious meal
Mrs. Leslie Knight opened the
meeting using the Christmas
worship service from the Glad
Tidings. Hymns used included
"Silent Night", "While Shep-
herds Watched", "0 Little Town
of Bethlehem", "It Came upon a
Midnight Clear", and "Away in a
Manger." Scripture readings were
given by the leader, Mrs. Mac-
Engel, Mrs. Donald Perrie and
Mrs. Wilfred Strickler. Prayers
were led by Mrs. Engel and Mrs.
Jack Knight. Fourteen answered
the roll call with a Christmas
reading. Correspondence from
Ewart College was read and it was
voted to send a donation.
Mrs. John Vanass will be
hostess for January which will be
the annual meeting of the Ladies'
Aid.
PERSONALS
Mr. and Mrs. Clare Veitch spent
a recent weekend visiting their
son-in-law and daughter Mr. and
Mrs. Patrick Adams and children
at Manotick.
Recent visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Stuart Stevenson were Mr.
and Mrs. Bruce Cummins, Toronto
and Mrs. Anna Lee Smith and
children, Milton.
The Knight families had an early
Christmas get together at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Arena.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knight and
son David of Toronto visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Knight and Mr.
and Mrs. David Cooper and family,
Windsor, with Mr. and Mrs. Leslie
Knight.
Mr. and Mrs. Sid Barnes,
London, visited Mrs. Ida Gordon
on Friday.
The Hall Board held their first
euchre on December 6 with 10
tables playing. Winners were:
high. Eleanor Stevenson, Jack
Cox; low, Shirley Veirstop, Donald
Clark; lone hands, Beryl Smith,
Jim McTaggart; lucky table, Jean
Conley, Patsy Dickinson, Ross
Stephenson, and Chas. Keeso;
luck tallies, Lenora Mills and Ross
Lee; lucky cup, Bill Craig.
There will no more euchres until
after New Years.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Snell on the birth of a
grandson Dec. 3 to Mr. and Mrs.
Ken McDougall, Clinton. Matthew
John is a brother for Kendra Ann.
Mr. Garry Koyle moved on
Wednesday, Dec. 4 into the house
he purchased from Mrs. Laura
Saundercock.
Miss Edythe Beacom returned
home on Thursday from spending
two weeks in Homestead, Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Millson,
Patricia, Sarah and John of
Woodstock visited on the weekend
with her mother Mrs. Dora Shob-
brook. On Saturday night they
attended the wedding of Judith
Ann Osmond and Avard John
Miller at Nile United Church and
the reception at Saltford Valley
Hall.
Fred and Laurie Ranter, Jenni-
fer and Craig of Woodstock visited
on Saturday with her parents Mr.
and Mrs. Vic Stackhouse.
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Saundercock
visited on Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne Peck, Kelly and
Christopher in London.
At the end of November,
Norman Alexander attended a
meeting in Toronto with the theme
"Agricultural Land Drainage in
Ontario, Improving The System".
The meeting was arranged by the
Shuffleboard
Winners
There were 13 present on
December 4 for shuffleboard. The
winners were Helen Lee, Vietta
Hoggart and Audrey Thompson.
The next week, Dec. 11, will be the
last shuffleboard for this year.
Ontario Soil and Crop Improve-
ment Association, with a view to
improving the management of soil
and water in Ontario. The first day,
all the drainage superintendents in
Ontario were asked to attend.
During the next two days, 12
Ontario organizations concerned
with water and land management
had a chance to have input. The
real challenge to improve the
system, however, lies in the area of
erosion control.
Spending the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs. Allen Shaddick were Jeff,
Karin Shaddick, Danny, Stephen
and Crystal of Kitchener.
